    Built my second kilt

I've had this black canvas hanging around for a while and finally decided to make another kilt. I built a more traditional last time and this time I lowered the waist about an inch and a half for a sportier fit. I admit I used a lot of Rocky's (USAK) design elements in it after receiving my Ireland's National Casual.

I simplified the construction by just laying out the over apron with taper, Then just marking out all of the pleats until I reached my hip size and then added one more deep pleat. Pressed them and sewed along the edge of each pleat ala USAK.

Then I did some math and figured I need to taper 14 pleats by 1 cm. Marked them out and sewed them down.
Here we are at about 2 hours in to it.

Sewed on a waist band and velcro closure as well as 4 belt loops and wore it today. Took about 3 1/2 hours it would have taken less time but I had to hem it as there was no selvedge.

It gets easier every time you make one. I'm not sure I like a black kilt. I think I look like a referee. O'Neille

Great job! I don't think I'll ever have the patience to make a kilt myself. But as they say, never say never!

A referee is not the impression I got at first glance (though I'd stay way from vertical wide striped shirts in black & white ).

Excellent! I didn't know that you made kilts!

I'm into kilts and computers....but I also have a special place in my heart for old vehicles. Tell us about the truck!

I'm into kilts. This is my third actually as I made one for my Daughter's bear. I think I'm ready to sew a tartan kilt now. I tollerate computers. The truck is a 1959 Chevrolet Apache 3200. It is totally original. I've found all of the needed trim work and will install it after paint. I drive it about once a week when it's not too hot. No Air. Straight six, 3 on the tree. O'Neille

Great looking truck! Oh, and the kilt is nice too. Amazingly fast pace you have going. I wish that I could put something together that fast

I'm blown away by the speed you manage to crank these things out. It takes me three times as long!
