What if kilts never really catch on?
Originally I started wearing kilts thinkiing that I could wear them everywhere, greatly increase public awareness of the kilt, and like cell phones soon no one would want to be without them. However, I must ask myself - what if that day never comes? What if they never become mainstream? More to the point, why would men not all want to wear them?
First of all, I think that men should wear kilts because they are more comfortable AND they are fun AND I don't know about anyone else but I'm not all that freaked out if a gust of wind blows my kilt up in the air and someone sees my underwear. Geez....if that was my biggest problem then life would be easy.
Furthermore, I don't think I'm giving up anything at all. If someone talks to me and thinks I'm somehow a "weaker" person because I'm wearing a kilt they have another thing coming. I mean, I'm the same guy regardless of whether I am wearing shorts, jeans, or a kilt. You WOULDN'T like me when I'm angry.
I have had to re-examine my goals and I think my goal is no longer to saturate the entire Phoenix area to cause all guys to start wearing kilts - that's not realistic. Instead, I will saturate the entire Phoenix area with the image of a guy in a kilt so they won't have a heart attack or choke on their coffee when they see me coming around the corner. If kilts catch on...fine. If they don't....fine....at least I'll be having tons of fun in my kilts for the next twenty or so years.

I'd like to at least think that I'm not all that concerned by what other people think or do.
Takes me enough energy just to worry about my own business, without giving *too much* consideration to the activities of others.
I'll wear a kilt sometimes, or a suit sometimes, or do *whatever*, b/c I'm in the mood.

Kilts were the rage long before I was born and I'm sure kilts will be here long after mine have turned to moth poop.
As for kilts being mainstream..... aren't they?

If they never catch on mainstream, then I'll still be more comforable than the majority of American males.
(I'm also the one guy who doesn't have a cell phone )

What if kilts never really catch on? Then I'll just stay on the outside of the mainstream. And I'll be wearing a very comfortable garment (kilt) while doing so. Besides, it's quiet peaceful here.

In my opinoin, Does it really matter? I wear a kilt because they are awsome not because other people do or I want other people to. Yes it would be nice to be able to walk down the street and not hear rude comments from people but that will never happen because there will always be rude and/or stupid people in the world.

Who cares about what others think. I once cared about what others thought and I got high blood pressure and people thought I was controlling. Now, My BP is down, I have a good group of friends and I dont worry about things I can not change. It just does not matter. When I wear my kilt, I am in my own world and if someone doesn't like the kilt, so what. Wear it with pride. and dont worry, be happy.

if they don't catch on then they don't catch on. I know I'm comfortable in my kilt, and many others here are as well. If I were to wear the kilt for someone else, it would be the same as wearing pants, because someone else wants me to fit in.
I figure I'll be me, and everyone else can figure things out for themselves. If I want to educate people about the kilt in doing so, that is fine. Do they need to start wearing the kilt? no.
besides, after all the social consciousness and political correctness, isn't a kilt, while being far more comfortable than pants and strongly tied to my family and herritage, just another piece of clothing?

Everyone here has pretty much already said what I would have said, but I'm going to add one more thing into the mix.
I've long said, though I'm not sure I've said it here, that everyone loves a rebel/innovator... UNTIL they have to deal with them face to face. I happen to like being the one who makes them deal with it face to face.
