brown Ghillie Brogues
Hello all,
Earlier this sumer I came across a post somewhere around here by someone who had been looking for and found (on ebay) some brown ghillie brogues. For some reason, though I spent the last forty minutes searching, I can't find that thread.
Please note that the thread I'm trying to find is not this thread.
The poster was understandably pleased at the quality of the brogues he found for sale on ebay. The image (posted in the thread) of the shoes he was bidding on was nice and clear and showed very nicely finished brown ghillie brogues. I don't recall the price.
I made a mental note to check back with that poster after he'd received the shoes to see if his experience was positive and to get a review of the shoes, but @#%*&-it, I can't find that thread now.
If anyone out there purchased some brown brogues this summer on ebay, could I impose on you for information?
- Did the sale go smoothly?
- Did they look as good in person as they did in the picture? They looked smashing, but if it's like those pictures of the food on the menu, well, sometimes the plate of mush the waitress plops down in front of you can be disappointing, if you know what I mean.
- How did they fit?
- What American size do you normally wear - including width - and what size did you order?
- Did they have leather or cushioned soles?
- Do you still have a link for the shoes? If so, could you post it please?
As I recall, the vendor was in Scotland, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Scott Gilmore

Wow, that was fast. Ask and ye shall receive. Thanks, that's what I was looking for.
Sandy, please regale us with a review now that you've had them for a couple of months. Still happy?

I hope they're still good, I just bid on a pair. I've gotten so much earth toned and brown accessories that I need them now. O'Neille

I'm stunned! I expected you to say you caught a cow, killed it bare handed, skinned it, tanned the leather and made a pair of shoes for yourself .... this morning! . ;]
Yeah, I have so much brown gear I find I need a pair too. I like the possibility of semi-formal wear with brown accesories. I think it can be done well with just the right tartan and accessories and you would definitely stand out in even a kilt wearing crowd.

I've put on my SWK weathered Lamont a few times and it was just a little too nice for my casual look and was screaming for brown brogues. My standard brown cap toes just don't have the bulk to do it justice. I think the brown brogues will complement many of my kilts and accessories nicely. O'Neille
