Every male in my family served ( or tried to and was not accepted due to blown knees or something like that) except me. Went to college and such. In the past few years I've inquired about joining the reserves, and every branch says I will be put in military intelligence, which I find rather humorous. Suffice it to say my wife and newborn son completely eliminated the option to head to boot and then AIT and OCS...

I am an eagle scout and a hell of a shot, does that make any difference?

I served as a member of US Army as an enlisted man for three years, US Army Reserve for two years (during Desert Storm, but didn't have to deploy), and served as US Army civilian for over seventeen years (and counting).

One uncle served in the Army during WWII (he helped liberate some of the camps in Europe), another uncle served in Europe just following WWII (during the occupation), and my dad served just after Korea (all stateside). My brother is currently serving in the US Army (about 15 years now, I think).

Both of my grandfathers served in the US Navy during WWI. A couple of cousins have served in the Navy (one helped in the evacuation of Vietnam). Another cousin was in the Army during Vietnam, but served as a tanker in Germany.

I guess you could say that my family has done it's share in serving the country.

I am also a Lifetime Member of AMVETS and currently volunteering as part of the Civil Air Patrol.
