Visiting Boston (with a Kilt !)

Hi All,

I'll be in Boston next week along with a handful of other businesses representing the Highlands and Islands of Scotland visiting the MIT.
If anyone is familiar with the area can you make any recommendations on places to go (or avoid !). Looks like we're fully scheduled during the days we're there (Wed,Thu & Fri) but may get a chance in the evenings to get out and about and to see some of the city.
I'll be taking my kilt with me although I'm not sure how much of an opportunity I'll have to wear it (are the Bostonians kilt friendly ?) and will probably take one of my 'Sgian Brews' rather than a bladed Sgian rather than risk any trouble with security.

Don't know Boston, but do know you should order some Boston Scrod for dinner if at all possible. Fish that melts in your mouth.

I was in Boston in August and had not problems going about kilted. Perhaps now that Andrew is back from his walk, he can recommend some good places to visit or for dinner.

If you're going to be at MIT, be sure to check in at Cambridge Brewing Co., just around the corner at One Kendall Square. Good food, and good beer.

Boston is a very kilt-friendly city! I've worn the kilt here for three years, with no problems.

If you like modern Irish folk music you should hit the Black Rose which is right near Fanuel Hall. While it is a bit touristy the music is great, there are a lot of locals as well, and you are guaranteed to get a good reception when you show up in a kilt.

cbiegel beat me to it...The Black Rose is a great place and kilt friendly....I make it a point to get their anytime I am in the area.....

PS: I highly recommend the Bangers and Mash and the cider is AWESOME...The Mrs. loves the twin lobster plate (in season)

I'll definately be wearing my kilt on my next visit.
The only negative from the trip was that after I'd unpacked I found that my sporran had been nicked from my baggage !
However, even that turned out ok in the end because the replacement that Tom Hays made me is the best sporran that I could have hoped for
