Help with a casual kilt outfit on a (teenagers) budget

I recently purchased a Sport kilt online for a school project. Being that it was 3 days till all i had the time (and money) to order was the kilt. I have since worn it once to school , on the day of the project, and many times around the house for various chores. Here are some pictures of the kilt.

Thats now exactly how i have worn it in school. instead i got a white collared button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a green i guess wool or cotton tie of matching shade an those same newbalance shoes. I have not yet acquired a sporran, thoug i would liek to get a semi formal leather one soon. Neither have i gotten any kilt hose or proper shoes. any suggestions on my outfit would be appreciated, but please remember that i ahev to buy this stuff on the budget of a minimum wage workers salary.

Go to Stillwater Kilts . You can buy their "economy sporran" for $15. I have one, and for the price it's great. You can get a pair of off-white hose for cheap too. As far as shoes, Payless probably has some sort of leather or "pleather" shoe that you could pull off with a kilt. Best of luck to you.

Also, Alabama Kiltie, have a look at the Stillwater Nightstalker cargo sporran....Watch the film clip (button under the picture of the sporran) to see a good reason for wearing this particular one

The Stillwater Nightstalker Sporran is well worth the extra money you'll have to save. I have two others: a badger fur (Brock U mascot) and a black three-tassled day sporran. The cheapest ($10 - $20) is the black one, but it doesn't hold nearly as much as the Nightstalker.

I will second or third or fourth the Stillwater Nightstalker sporran as a really great value...I wear mine even with jeans and schlep all my junk around with me: notebook, phone, wallet, gum...the thing is like a TARDIS...bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside.

As far as socks go, soccer socks have been mentioned here as a readily available and inexpensive possibility. I've picked up a couple of pair but they look pretty thin when you wear them "up"...best to "scroonch" them and wear them with a lace-up boot or something similar. Keep an eye on websites for historical re-enactors...they often have some nice over the knee wool socks available at reasonable prices. Wool is great and is worth the bucks because it wears really well and is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

And do not forget that the holidays are coming and your family may very well ask you what you want for Christmas (or the Winter Solstice based holiday of your choice). I'm obviously personally predjudiced, but the sharp lookin' kilted look is quite apropo to the festive Holiday season...hopefully your folks will agree with that concept and may very well pop for some goodies.

Black leather Sketchers are a good choice for both a casual and a more dress situation. Spring for a set of kilt hose matching your kilt color. Scrunch 'em down for casual. Up for dress. The Stillwater suggestions are excellent.

I agree with the Stillwater suggestion, You can pick up a reasonablly priced belt, hose, and sporran there. They are a great source for some starting out accessories.

I will note that as for a sporran, don't get the cheapest one. I would recomend one of the Buzz Kidder models. They are more, but they are very sturdy and much larger than the base model. The cheapest sporran may fit your budget but you will rapidly wish to replace it. Wait (or ask for one for Christmas) and get a sporran will last and you will still want to wear a year from now.

As for flashes, Stillwater has some inexpensive ones, or search the accessories forums for one of the "How to" threads, they are pretty easy to make.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.. It seems like Stillwater is going to be getting alot of business from me. I'm going to make my next kilt a black stweart tart from them, it seems my family has ties with the stewart clan. I also plan on purchasing thri night stalker sporran and some kilt hose to go with it. I'm pretty sure I can find some leather shoes to do for right now
