Kilting in Low Season

OK, kilts are for wearing all year round, but in winter there are no events such as Highland Games etc. where kilts are seen in the same abundance as in summer. Our aviation museum is now closed till Easter so instead of going kilted to meet the public at weekends any winter work will be old trousers stuff such as cleaning and painting exhibits. I'm a member of the management board of our local housing association which provides low cost rented housing so will be getting kilted up later this afternoon to go to a board meeting; after that my next kilt day won't likely be till Court next Tuesday. At this time of year my seven pairs of trousers begin to get more use than my nine kilts. Do others find this also or do many of you now go full time kilted all year round?

I try not to let the season of the year determine whether or not I wear a kilt and usually wear one even when on my own at home.

Other considerations may of course affect it. I have just purchased my first motorcycle after a 10 year absence from riding and whereas my leather union kilt might well work in warmer weather this time of year might just be a case of discretion being the better part of valour

I won't be riding it much over the colder months though and being kilted when using the car is not a problem!

I'm riding it up to a friend's in mid Wales tomorrow but will be taking at least one kilt with me to change into when I get there.

Depends on how you get in the car! The pleats are always between my bare skin (oops is that a confession? ) and the car seat.

Of course KCW, you live in Florida so the whole "Winter" concept doesn't really apply to you does it?

I know this is late but, As far as year round, No problem. I got a set of kilts I use to do my yard work and such around the house. When I'm just hanging around I usually wear my inexpensive Stillwaters and for actually doing outdoor work, not at work, I will wear my Amerikilts or a Utililikt these are made of cotton and tend to be a bit tougher to harm. If its cold and I'm going to work I will wear either my Stillwaters or my family tartans. I work at a desk so weather is not a problem. But I personally don't stop wearing them due to weather. Hell if I put on a pair of pants now folks would think me a loon.

Welcome to the board from over in Asheville, NC.

This was discussed in another thread recently. If you keep your head, feet, and torso warm, the rest will take care of itself. I've gone out kilted in sub-freezing weather lately with no real discomfort. If it's windy, then that's a bit of a different story.

It's funny, I find myself wearing my kilts more in the fall and winter seasons, then in the spring/summer. In the springtime around here it's way too windy and in the summer I end up wearing swim shorts most of the time (I have a small pool in the back yard and that's where I spend most of my time). As for in the fall/winter season, my favorite time of year, I find myself to be more comfortable in the cold and the rain , I'm odd that way.
