Gunga Din
Seems to be running on Turner Classic Movies channel....what a treat.
Have enjoyed the movie since childhood, never appreciated ALL the kilts until now, and all worn so naturally.
Treat yourself if it comes your way.

I have not had TV of any kind: antenna, cable or satellite for over 10 years. Is this the old B&W where at the end of the movie the lead man quotes the last lines of Louis Untermeyer's poem
You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! ?
If so, I remember the movie. A classic!

Aye, the 1939 classic with Cary Grant and Douglas Fairbanks...in the movie they had Kipling write the poem.
Someone made a LOT of kilts for the Scottish soldiers.

Kipling did write the poem.

Ahem...That was Rudyard Kipling, as Ruanaidh said, although it appears the gentleman you mentioned edited Modern British Poetry, which included "Gunga Din".

I stayed up with the Mrs. last night and watched it with much enjoyment.
One thing I did find interesting is that the took the trouble to give the title of "Lord Lovat's Lament" in the captioning at the end whilst no other titles were given for the others. The piping was very good I thought. Does anyone know if they did indeed use a military unit for the pipers?
Imagine what a nightmare it was to coordinate the battle at the end of the movie!
It's a "Guid un" as they say.
