    Which Jacket?

I want to buy a jacket that would be acceptable for day wear around town.
What would be the best choice
I'm leaning to the black or charcoal as that color would go with both of my kilts
    Or is black too formal?
Choice of what I've found are the following:
    Wallace Jacket in black
    http://scottishkilts.net/products/sc...waistcoat.html

or this Tweed Argyll in charcoal
    http://scottishkilts.net/products/sc...waistcoat.html
Or is the the single button jacket less formal
    http://scottishkilts.net/products/sc...yll_range.html
Or is a Tweed Crail Jacket the way to go
    http://kiltstore.net/sr_swhdr_crail_...e=highlandwear
Am I headed in the right direction or is there something else I should be looking at ?
    any advice would be weclomed

I'm fond of the charcoal Argyll - it dresses up or down nicely.

One button in the front, gauntlet cuff.

Can be dressed up a bit more with a nice waistcoat, different tie, et cetera.

I concur. My own Argyll is grey-green and goes nicely with my kilts, but I sometimes wish I had one in charcoal. Black would be too dressy for many uses.

If it were me, the one button gauntlet cuff in charcoal.

My lovat green tweed is my favorite jacket, but alas it's way too warm to wear most of the year in Florida. I pipe so many funerals I prefer not to dress like Darth Vader if I don't have to.

If its for day I'd go with a tweed Argyll or maybe even a Crail. Unless you want to be mistaken for someone's driver I'd stay away from black for day wear. I'd also suggest more tweeds than solid wools. The question is: What are the tartans of your kilts? Charcoal jackets demand a lot of colour. Unless you have a very bright, colourful and gaudy tartan I'd keep at most to something like the blue/gray in

    http://houseoflabhran.net/haggartstweed.html
-- although I'd probably (looking at my jackets) if limited to the two choose the greenish one (I actually have a jacket, although not for kilts, of a cloth quite similar to the Haggart blue tweed above). I'd also not ignore blue or green Lovat tweeds or even purple. Purple is perhaps less in vogue today but its not just striking but probably the most Scottish of the bunch :-)

Back to the point. What tartans (as well was weave and weight of material) are your kilts? What shoes do you normally wear? What are the styles, colours and textures of your typical day sporrans? What kind of shirts do you like and what bonnet?

Single button, gauntlet, maybe silver buttons so you could dress it up. Charcoal or black would go w/ anything. O'Neille

    Both are somewhat reserved.

With Government 1 (even 1A), I'd suggest, the last colour you want is gray solid. Black watch is a low tone dark green, blue and black tartan and so demands something either tone-in-tone (like the No-1 uniform jacket with its dark green and yellow facings) or a bit louder. I mentioned purple. Purple tweed looks nice. Green lovat tweed too looks good.

I don't really know ancient Muir but it seems to be light blue with yellow and some red. I'd have to have a bit of cloth in front of me but I could imagine that either blue or green lovat tweed would look good.

Trying to think about what goes well with a dark gray jacket (in contrast to dark gray flannel pants) I guess the list is quite short..
