A bad night kilting,
Is better than a good night in trousers!
My wife and I along with another couple went to dinner and a movie on Saturday evening. What a great time! I was wearing my back Stewart SWK and for the first time, kilt hose. (hard to fit 20 inch calves!) This was topped off with a long sleeve black button down shirt and red tie.
Most of the evening was positive comments until the first dreaded negative one. As I was walking into the wash room, one of the gentlemen there said "hey dude! If your going to wear that, go into the ladies room!" Just as I was getting ready to answer, another gentleman spoke up and let the guy know in no uncertain terms the history of the kilt and the number of men who have fought and died in it. The gentleman who made the initial comment turned to me and apologized!
Later than evening as we were leaving the theater, the guy comes up to me again with his family and asked me to explain the kilt to his wife and kids. By the time I finished, there was a crowd of about 10 listening in.
I will never again feel out of place in this garment! And to Matt Newsome and others, watch out! The wife has agreed in principle to my purchasing three others...

Yes, it sounds like a very good night!
It takes a real man to wear a kilt. Only a small one to poke fun at it, which this fellow found out.
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

I feel more comfortable and confident out and about kilted than I do in trousers. Most people are at least aware of what a kilt is; unfortunately, there are morons among them as well.

It also takes a great deal of courage to admit you opened your mouth and inserted you foot.

At least the guy was gracious enough to apologise and learned a lesson or two.
That isn't always the case!

Great story; there's no such thing as a bad night kilted.

Good story. Have you thought about what you might have said, or how you'd reacted, if the historian guy hadn't been there?
