Encouraging News...
I was in our local Scottish shop (local to me is 40 minutes away!) yesterday, to have a look at the construction of their Rob Roy sporran. I was admiring the large stock of sporrans, and the woman who worked there said "I don't know what's going on lately, but for the past couple weeks, we have sold at least one sporran a day." I was pleasantly surprised, and told her about XMarks, and how, in my opinion, there is fairly recent increase in membership. I like the idea that more people are getting interested in our (their) heritage, or at least the appreciation of things Scottish.

Did she happen to mention if they were day or dress sporrans, as in Christmas partys?

I love hearing that.
Congratulations on even having a local Scottish shop.
I am seriously considering opening one here just so we can get stuff without having to go to North Carolina.

I just got off the phone with a different saleswoman from the same shop, and she said that the day sporrans and dress sporrans are moving out equally... She was very happy to hear about us XMarkers...

Yeah, there's a Celtic-themed shop about 30 minutes from where I lived that sells cheap kilts, but I don't know where the nearest real kilt shop is. You're lucky you have one relatively close. And that's great news for kilting in general!

Is that the one in Richmond, Illinois? There's supposed to be one in the Western Chicago suburbs...Addison, I think. That one in the suburbs may well be a pipe band supplier more than a retail shop though...

So I check out the website for the place in Richmond (www.CelticHomeandHearth.com) and in the photos of their kilts, all the kilts are backward!!! I think I'll find a different place to buy a kilt, if they don't even know the front from the back...
