    Celtic tunes on Sirius?

We just got a "new to us" van for my wife. It comes with a 1 year subscription to Sirius sat. radio service. I was quickly running through the channels (200 of them) and was wondering if any tended to play Celtic stuff. I heard none, though I heard a few "ethnic" ones.

Also, I heard quite a few commercials in the "commercial free" pay radio ! If I was paying for the service, I would be LIVID on the false advertizing. I also heard LA and Arizona traffic reports (of little use to me).

Not sure if it's the same as mentioned above, but the lead singer of Black 47 (Larry Kirwan) hosts Celtic Crush on Saturday mornings. Don't know what channel, as I don't have Sirius.

I have a Sirius receiver in the lab. I've never found any Celtic tunes either. And, honestly I don't even listen to Sirius much. I was exposed to Sirius a few years ago, and at the time Channel 27 Hard Attack had great programming. But, when I purchased one myself last year, the channel had really seemed to have gone down hill. The only reason I keep it is my lab techs on the night shift listen to techno on it constantly.

    Great Celtic Music

Go to live365.com on your computer.
Under Celtic, they have about 50 different programs.
I listen to it all the time I'm on the computer when at home.
You can also purchase some tracks and albums that you hear and get them downloaded to your computer, then to your iPod.

Celtic Crush is on Sirius Channel 24 on Saturdays 10 AM to 1 PM ET and is rebroadcast Tuesdays from 10 PM to 1 AM. I LOVE my Sirius Radio. If you have an account you can also stream many of their channels from the website as well. I listen all day at work too.

I also subscribe to a Celtic music podcast via iTunes. I'll try to remember to look it up tonight and post what it is.

The local Irish Pub "The Claddagh" has celtic music played via a sat service. If I find out what it is I'll post it here.

Perfect timing for this post. I'll be Sirius Sat surfing in my car in a few weeks and wondered the same thing. I like regular radio for what it's worth but wanted another option and a little Howard once in a while. If you find out more anybody, I too will keep watching this post for more Celtic music sources.

I received an email back from the Claddagh. Here is what the letter said:

    Dear Matthew,

The music we play at the Claddagh is from a satellite station called DMX and is a commercial provider of music. I am not sure if it is something that can be bought directly, but I know you can find out more about them on their web site.

Thanks for the great feedback and I hope this helps or at least answers your question.

    Sincerely,

    Greg Jones

Here is the link to the DMX site: http://www.dmxmusic.com/

I am going to guess that this will not be a viable alterneative to Sirius and XM Sat Radio services.
