Workplace racism againsed Scots forces me to quit.
Today was my last day on my current job.
The two head managers of my current workplace apparenly saw me in my kilt a few days ago. They figured I was either Scottish or gay.... hence today began a berate attack againsed me being Scottish, and wearing kilts. I took the beating for awhile, then left quietly. I then called my boss who is straight above me. A younger girl about my age who is my manager. I expressed the uncomfortable position I was placed in, and that I had BiPolar disorder and that I was close to just "blowing up" in the head manager's faces. So I left. She understood completly. I expressed that I was indeed in fact quite Scottish on my mother's side and that I was not going to take that kind of abuse. I also said that I was not gay, that I was indeed also a Christian and everything to the like. She said that she understood completly, and being that uncomfortable in the workplace would cause me not to be able to function that I did not need to be working there. And then she said to call her if I felt I could work there. I left it from there. My mom being Scottish herself is very upset with the managers, and does not believe I need to be working there.

Don't lose your job over this. Make them lose their jobs over this. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Think about what's best for you. Rights and lawsuits are not nearly as important as your own wellness.
There's no way I can even begin to give advice, but I can tell you that your own well being is the main thing. One bunch of jerks is like another, but BP and understanding and takning care of it is another altogether. Sounds like you handled things pretty well and that you have your head on straight.
Take care.

Well if the two head managers are that stupid, the company who employed them ought to be told. I think it will be those two immature assholes who are heading out of a job. Unless of coures it is their own company in which case their stupidity will lose them good employees and their company will fail.

In today's market place where tolerance is prized above productivity, I find it strange that those 2 guys aren't being disciplined and sent to "sensitivity training" or some other such class. Do what is right for your own well-being. Karma has a way of biting idiots in the butt, they'll get theirs.

If the job is worth it to you, stay. If they force you to resign and/or terminate you, then you have a possible legal claim against them. (assuming, you were otherwise a good employee). I can't give you legal advice, but workplace gender discrimination works in many ways. One of these ways is "gender stereotyping", i.e. an employer can not adversely affect your employment status because you do not dress as a typical male/female. [Also, if you ask for reasonable accomodations, your bi-polar disorder may present certain ADA issues]. Consider doing your job and see if this passes. If it gets too bad, talk to an employment lawyer. My 1 1/2 cents.

I'd like to see those two fellows get their "come-uppance" in the form of at least a reprimand, and ideally an official company stance in your favour...but your mental health is more important than fighting the "good fight". Still, please let us know how/if the company is going to address this harrassment, and what you plan to do.
Bryan...tough situation...

two cents more
Scotexan21,
Free advice is worth the price but here is my tuppence worth...
There are a lot of unknowns here...your past experiences on this job before and with these managers, what type of job it is, whether it is a career job or an interim student job, et cetera ad infinitum....but speaking from the perspective of 35+ years more in the workplace, you are at the most basic level of flee or fight.
You will have lots of support from friends and family outside the job but how much from the young and female "senior" manager? How much "Good Ole Texan Boy" attitude prevails throughout the company? Would she, your boss, be willing or able to discipline or discharge these two cretins, sorry, managers?
If you leave the job, albeit with reasonable cause, what message and power does this give these two individuals? And, lastly, how much do you care?
I wish you luck and know that you have my support either way, and I am sure there are a large number of XMarkers that will agree with any decision you make (and some who won't agree with Any decision you make ).
Illegitimi Non Carborundum
"Don't let the bastards grind you down"
According to Safire's New Political Dictionary, this is "a pseudo-Latin phrase meaning 'don't let the bastards grind you down'. Small signs and plaques carrying this message have appeared in U.S. business offices and army posts for at least a generation, since General "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell used it as his motto in World War II. Carborundum is a trademark for silicon carbide, a leading commercial grinding substance...In politics, the motto was popularized by 1964 Republican nominee Senator Barry Goldwater, who hung the sign in his office."
