    My Dress Sporran

    Well, I finally finished it!
About 3 months ago I obtained from Joe Gondek a dandy cantle for a dress sporran that I've had in mind. (Thanks Joe!!)
Well, this is is the finished result...

I made this out of genuine arctic acrylabeast fur* from Walmart ($3.00), a salvaged purse from a thift store for the black accents and the backing, and a brooch from the local Scottish Store.
I made the strap from one of the straps from the purse and that worked well, but no pics of that... sorry!

    Here is a closer shot...

I told my wife that now that I made it, I may not have anyplace to wear it. It might be too fancy for anything but weddings

*no actual animals were harmed in the constuction of this sporran except for the use of one recycled cow hide and I'm pretty sure that animal was eaten and thereby gave it's all
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

Very nice indeed, I really like the cantle. When I first looked at the picture I thought that you went out and bought it, good for you, the talent on this board never ceses to amaze me.

but didnt you know the arctic acrylabeast is endangered?

    That is nicely done!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Good job. Guess you'll have to convince the wife that it's time you took her shopping for a new gown and that you got that doublet you've been eying so you can make the next Caledonian ball.

    I appreciate the comments!
The tassel bells came with the cantle. I had never done tassels before but it really wasn't too hard. I took about 3 inch long strips of the material, sewed the chain to it, and wrapped it up. Nothing to it!

My wife is actually making a gown to match one of my kilts so....it's all starting to come together

As to the actic acrylabeast, it may be endangered in other places but we have a lot of them here in Utah. I saw at least a dozen or more pelts hanging on the rack
