It is the Antarctica I believe. I think I had this kilt in my hands one sunny afternoon sitting on Barb's deck. It along with the weathered brown (
weathered Ferguson???) one also in Barb's book are true works of art. It was seeing those kilts in person that made me know that one day I too would own a Tewksbury. Now I do.

    I wear the kilt because:

    Tartan ID

Steve is correct; it is the Antarctica tartan:

It's cousin is the Arctic tartan, which I have always admired.

I've moved this thread to the Heraldry & Tartans section, since it was asking for tartan identification -- please post all tartan-related threads here.

    Regards,

    Todd

That IS stunning. When I saw this picture some time ago, I figured it was a dress version of something or other (because of all the white, of course.) Very cool (no pun intended.)

The tartan on the right is the Isle of Skye and there are quite a few other pics around the forums if you want to do a search for it IE

    Hi Beut

Sorry I missed this thread when it was first posted! The guys have all the right answers about this tartan.

It was designed by Ros Jones on the Isle of Mull, and all of the colors have significance to Antarctica. It's now being carried exclusively by the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust. You'll see pics below of both the Antarctic and Arctic tartans (Arctic on the left of the first one). I pleated both of these kilts to the stripe, and the Antarctic is particularly striking the way it opens up white in the back.

The hose are custom-knitted by Henderson in the UK. Dancers have custom-knit argyle hose to match the kilt. You don't want to know how much they cost now, with the British pound being so strong. I ordered the ones in the picture quite a few years ago, and, at that time, they cost $135......

    Cheers,

    B
