Scottish Tourism Promotion w/ "Hot" Men in Kilts

‘Hot Scots’ are a tourist attraction

Scots guys have donned their kilts in a bid to give tourism a sexy twist.

A professional rugby player, a drummer, an accountant and a martial arts instructor are among finalists from the West of Scotland who have made it on to the shortlist in the "Date a Hot Scot" contest.

Run by VisitScotland, it has been designed to promote Scotland in a way which will appeal to the young, single market.

Women can visit www.dateahotscot.com to vote for person who will be crowned Hot Scot 2007 in April.

Some of the final few met at House for An Art Lover ahead of Valentine's Day.

Drummer Andrew Horne, from Paisley, who plays with The Porridge Men, is one of the finalists.

The 30-year-old said: "I'm delighted to have made it through to the final 20. It's a fun way to show the rest of the world what Scotland has to offer.

"I'm proud to act as an ambassador for my country and tell as many people as possible what I love about Scotland.

"With my band The Porridge Men I've already flown the flag at Tartan Week in New York, so this is just another way of spreading the word."

The Hot Scots feature on the campaign website along with a wide range of travel deals and showcased locations, which will give women an idea of where to find their "type" of Scot.
Well I visited the family-friendly site: http://www.dateahotscot.com/ and must say I can't tell if the men are hot, but they are all wearing a real good selection kilts from modern to traditional, worn both casually and formally.

    Best regards,

    Jake

*LOL* That is an interesting twist on tourism. Always wanted to go to Scotland but the idea of sexy men didn't enter into my thought process.

I thought this kilt was rather unique. I don't believe I've ever seen one in pinstripe before.

That looks like one of the designs from 21st Century Kilts next door to Geoffrey (Tailor) in Edinburgh.

Is it just me, or does the fact that all these men project a certain confidence (which is in my opinion the MOST important aspect of kilt wearing) is the thing that gives them all apeal?

    Bully for them!

Actually, I'm about 99% sure that's a pinstripe kilt suit from 21st. Century Kilts. Looking at the kilt pin I don't see how it can be any other. There are quite a few of those pins in the pics. Yes, Hamish has several of these outfits. I want one too.

    From the Boston Herald

Ladies, here’s your chance to date a hot Scot
    By Tenley Woodman
    Boston Herald Features Reporter

    Thursday, February 15, 2007 - Updated: 10:05 AM EST

Was your Valentine’s Day a bust? No worries -- Scotland has a cure for lonely hearts.

Twenty-six of the nation’s most eligible bachelors are up for grabs on www.dateahotscot.com.

Through April 12, women throughout the world can vote for the kilt-clad lad that suits their fancy. Voters are then entered to win a three-night trip to Scotland with a girlfriend, where they can meet the hot Scots in person and indulge in the best the Celts have to offer.

Among the attractive ambassadors for Scotland are Chris Capaldi, 28, a member of Scotland’s rugby team; Robert Hanlon, 28, a journalist from Dumfries; and Ian Davidson, 24, an account executive working in Edinburgh.

"I think the Celtic thing is quite cool," said Davidson, an avid surfer.

The three proud Scots agree that the appeal of their country, aside from its rustic beauty, is the personality of its people.

"I think sense of humor is one of the main things, and the accents," Hanlon said.

"It’s the closest thing to a foreign language that I have," Capaldi said of his rough burr.

"I think we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Scottish guys have a pretty good personality," said Davidson, who grew up on a farm in the borders region, close to England.

And they’re willing to show a little leg.

Capaldi, who is also a model for 21st Century Kilts, said the traditional garment is becoming a more casual item of clothing.

"If you want to dress up for the night and stand out, people wear them," Capaldi said. "As far as traditional dress, I think the guys have an advantage there."

As of May, searching for men in kilts will be made easier when FlyGlobespan, a Scottish airline, begins daily, direct service from Boston to Glasgow.

    Go to www.dateahotscot.com.

    Hall-of-fame hotties

Could it be the kilt? Or is it the Scottish burr? Whatever these famous Scots have, it’s worth noting. Here are our picks for the Hot Scot hall of fame:

    Sean Connery -- 00-hottie

    Ewan McGregor -- motorcycle-riding, kilt-wearing Jedi Knight

Sheena Easton -- ’80s rock icon and Prince collaborator

Shrek -- He’s green, but what a charmer

Franz Ferdinand -- the band, not the archduke

    Annie Lennox -- diva extraordinaire

    Alan Cumming -- dramatic divo

Craig Ferguson -- late-night funny guy

    Shirley Manson -- Garbage girl

Rod Stewart -- If you think he’s sexy...

Groundskeeper Willie -- "The Simpsons" character is hot, as in sweaty

    Billy Boyd -- He’s a Hobbit!

Robbie Coltrane -- giant Hagrid with heart of gold in "Harry Potter [website]"

    KT Tunstall -- sexy songstress

Katie Leung -- Harry Potter’s crush in "The Goblet of Fire," Cho Chang

    -- Tenley Woodman

The promotion isn't a bad idea. That pinstripe kilt however, is pure gold. I want one!
