    A suggestion: Storrington Kilts Weekend

This has been at the back of my mind for a while and I need to run it past you all before spending any time on developing any detailed plans.

If I were to organise a Kilts Weekend, based on my home here in Storrington, how many of you would be seriously interested in joining me for a few days? It is probably too late now for this to take place in 2007, so I am thinking ahead to early June 2008.

At that time, the countryside is at its most attractive, the weather is usually reliable (pleasantly warm but not too hot) and there are many interesting places we can visit - Portsmouth's Historical Naval Dockyard, Fishbourne Roman Palace at Chichester, Arundel Castle, Brighton's Royal Pavilion, Petworth House, walks on the South Downs, visits to famous gardens, etc. There are also some great Country Pubs in the area - and just imagine the photo opportunties in my own garden!!

Accommodation: my home is smallish and I can acommodate no more than one couple, but there are a number of B&Bs in and around the village and within a few miles radius - I could easily draw up a list.

Very obviously, I am not looking for firm commitments at this stage, but I should like some indication of whether such an event would be welcomed by 'The Fraternity' and, if so, roughly what numbers we might be.

I'd love to do this but I can't leave Ann on her own overnight. Could either drive down to Storrington with Ann, with an overnight stop on the way and stay a few nights at a B & B in your area. Alternatively I could come on my own by air for a day trip and attend one day only.

I for one would love to be able to make it, I can not tell you how envious I was at seeing the rabble in Dumphries for Burns night, primarily because of the comradery shown. I would also dearly love to go across the pond and explore both Scotland and England, as I have never been, so this is to me an opportunity to take very seriously indeed.

I also think that a tentative date of 2008 is prudent as an undertaking like this does take time to organize.

We would definitely be interested! The girls were looking at some pics from our trip last October and the younger one pointed to a pic of us in from of Big Ben and said "Daddy, I want to go back there!"

There is a good chance I will be in Scotland in the summer of 2008. Depending on dates and funds, I would love to head down for the weekend. Of course my appearance fee for attending the event would be a photo in your now famous garden

I would of course have to stop at Dumfries on the way for a night or two.

    Hamish my friend,
An opportunity to share a spot 'o in your lovely garden is something I could never pass up. Bobbie and I have had a trip to your shores in the planning stage for far too long. Perhaps this will give us the incentive to make it a reality.
Please count us as very interested.

I would be very interested. Of course I would have to work the visit into a bigger overall trip to justify the cost of the flight over. But then, there are still places I would like to visit in your neck of the woods.

    Ham,

If our vacation paterns hold true we are most likely going to be in the United Kingdom EVERY June for the next several years. We'd be delighted to attend this event. (Although mid to late June would be better.)

    Thank you for the invitation.
