Okay, a favor of those Xians
Sorry I mislead some of you Xians is another way to write Christians. The X is Greek "CHI" which starts for Christ or Christian. I'm asking for some devotional/lesson help.
I led a camp (dorm camp) for Jr. High students for the churches who I am associated with. I put together the whole theme and I was going to wear my kilt, not to shock the kids, I'm sure it will for some of them the first day. But I have 5 days to find one day that I'm going to wear it. I have a main theme and several sub themes (this is a Christian Camp) and we try to focus kids in living a positive and productive life.
The theme is: SOLID (living a solid life) for you Bible thumpers: wise & foolish builders, wise has a solid foundation and foolish has sandy foundation.
Daily themes are what makes one live a solid life
1. Pure
2. Strong - thought this might be a good day.
3. True - 2nd choice of the day to wear kilt and some history.
4. Committed
5. Everlasting
I wanted to tie one in to Scotland history or something to that regard, I have a devotion already set for the Kilt/Tartan significance. But I really wanted to find another good devotion for the evening. I would like to have a bagpiper wake them in the morning That would be great.
What I am asking is if anyone out there has some ideas? Whew! All that just for what I'm asking.
Thanks for anyone who wants to help. Feel free to PM me.

The topic is a very broad, detailed and subjective one. Depending on ones views this topic could end up anywhere and without knowing in more detail what you direction you are going with it it would be very hard for someone to take the time to give a lot of ideas that may not "jive" with what you are already committed to.
The only suggestion I could give is to use examples that are in current events and effect their daily lives already so that as they return to their daily lives after camp, they have reminders and application for what they have learned. Application being the big thing to me. How do I apply this to my everyday life?
When my wife was teaching I bought here a book called "When am I ever going to use this again?" It had some great stuff in it that gave kids actual examples of why they need to know how to calculate the angle of a trapazoidal duadenum (or something like that). I remember so many times sitting in class thinking why in the world do I need to know this and sadly, the teacher didn't know other than to say it's in the curriculum. Not good enough to a adolescent.
Just make sure the lessons are applicable to their lives or that they understand why they need to know this.
Not much help there, but you asked Hope it helps somewhat.

Might I ask as to where you got this book?

I found it at a Teachers Supply store. I'll see if I can find the ISBN for you.

I'd go with the strength day, with a quick glance over everything. you could bring in the parallel of how wearing a kilt can be tough, as there are others who would laugh and/or make fun if you for it. However, it's part of you, your heritage, who you are. And in that, you stand strong in maintaining that part of you.
Incorporate how the christian life can be much the same way.

I'd probably go with the strength of the scots. least difficult to get accross.
I would also suggest not just one, but an entire pipe band. Some people are very heavy sleepers.

Xmarkr's is cool! If you already own your family name tartan, wear it. If you have the Black Watch tartan wear that. If not, wear what ever one you own that you want. For a relevant lesson, picking a fight would not get much favorable support, so my next guess would be to get online and print out tartan history and religious influences in European clothing. From there you could possibly get a fairly animated dialogue going in a casual but closely regulated rap session at camp. You might start it by asking for questions regarding the kilt you're wearing and how it differs from the wrap ilke clothing of other cultures, perhaps including toga's and the probable garments that Jesus wore and others of Older and early New Testament times.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

And this seems like the best course of action. If anyone has any input for Chaplain Harris, drop him a Private Message. There's far too much "potential" attached to this one.
Thread locked. For those that are suddenly sitting up to PM a complaint to me, please don't.
