Very tasteful artwork
So we went to a local arts center last night to see a local production of "Damn Yankees" and the work of this woman was hanging on the walls in the lobby:
http://amwhitestudio.com/gallery/Ire...+Drawings/5303
....nice pen and ink drawings of sessuins and pubs and I thought that you lot would be amused by the fact that some of them have a Guinness wash added to give them that nice light tan tone. I believe that Ms. White is the wife of Jim White who't the guitarist in my buddy John's band, "Dyed in the Wool".

Nice Drawings, and an interesting idea and effect with the Guiness wash.

I saw her stuff hung up when I went to the Chicago Irish Film Festival a few weeks ago. I agree, her stuff was really great!

Rather enjoyable and a good use for Guinness. Oh did I say that out loud?

Alice McMahon White the artist here.
Hey to all you Kilt wearers! (How hot is that?!) I found this thread thru my webstats. Good to find people saying NICE things behind my back. Haven't always been so lucky.
No, I'm not married to Jim White, tho he is a good friend and I painted the cover for Dyed inthe Wool's last CD. Jim also played in my husband Steve white's former band.
Glad you liked my work. The Guinness paintings are near to my heart. The show will be at the BAC thru April 1st.
Hope to have another show somehere soon. And I plan to do a few paintings of kilt wearers for that. Got some great shots at the SSIrish parade. I had a very successful show last summer at the Irish American Heritage Center. Keep posted on my site for upcoming shows!
Thanks! Alice
PS. You could help me by giving me your vote: I have a major international competition now at
http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/showdown/
If you could vote both for my work and the other artist's work, I'd appreciate it! Of course if you give me 10 stars and my competitor 1, I'd be even happier!

Reason: There's a deadline in the online competition. Voting ends midnight April 1st.

Alice, be sure to fit the Highland Games out in Oak Brook into your schedule if you want to catch the kilties at their best. June 15 and 16.

Jim, I accidently dribbled a bit on my sketch book once at a sessuin, then doodled the splat into a little man Coffee or tea work well for washes, even along with watercolor. Guinness is a bit sugary, so it'll leave a sheen on the paper in areas where you layer it on for the deeper tones. I usually condense it first, by leaving it in a small cup for a day or so, or even microwaving a bit. Not sure how this medium'll hold up over time, because of the sugars. I hope ants don't decide to chew on the drawings!
