define "bone"
that being said...I'll be the pirate-types have plenty of them, from their pillaging and raids on the non-kilted!

There are plenty of sgian dubhs with antler handles, I'm not too fond of that look but some people can pull it off.

Avtually KT, you are quite right, even if you were just joking around.
Real pirates favoured hand knapped knives of all shapes and sizes. Stone, bone, petrified woods, whatever was handy. Hand knapped blades were sharp, jagged, left nasty wounds, and most importantly, DID NOT RUST.

oh I wasn't joking completely..having done some anthropology study while in college....
I think obsidian was the blade of choice for those who could find it, since it was sooo sharp!

obsidian is naturally shiny. It is a form of natural glass.

I wouldn't mind a black knife with a blade made from thin cloudy amber. Purely decorative mind you, I wouldn't need an actual edge on it.
Something more along the lines of a conversation starter.

Greetings, all. I actually use a unique little knife made from the jawbone of a racoon, with a blade set into it. It's more of a "southwestern US" kind of piece, but I find it unique enough so that it's a bit of a conversation piece. And it's beautifully made by hand, so I prefer it to one of the cheapy plastic eb** pieces.
My browser doesn't want to let me post a pic, but if you google "raccoon jaw knife" you'll find it eventually.
