    Pleats and fastenersor whatever

made my son a kilt for upcoming games here since hes long since outgrew last years(hes 3) .My problem is Im wanting to finish it up I thought it closed on right my mom says left.Help! Also do you think it would look goofy with just three simple buttons on side that closes (right or left)to keep it shut.dont want him looking like a idiot lol but not wanting to kill myself either since he may actually wear the thing 3 or 4 times besides playing before hes outgrown it.

The closure (the side where the kilt pin should be) is on the right for a gent and the left for a lady.

On a solid kilt when you don't wear or need a sporran I kinda like the look of buttons. That's why I use them on my Cargo and Casual models.

However, on Tartans or on kilts where a sporran is worn the buttons are too much.

On Kid's kilt I usually use velcro on the waistband. Infinite growth possibilities - inexpensive - and works fine.

    I wear the kilt because:

Definitely close it on the right. Tell Grandma it's not a skirt. I don't think simple black or other complimentary buttons would be bad on a child's kilt.

I bought a kilt for my son at the highland games, and the flap was on the left. I told the kilt dealer, that I wanted a boys kilt, not a girls skirt. the kilt maker informed me, that for boy/children, the flap was on the left. I asked the resident expert, Matt Newsome, at the Scottish Tartans Museum, and he said, technically, yes. That a boys kilt could close on the left, and that the guy was not lying just to make a sale.
