    Firefighter's Memorial Tartan

    Hey Guys,

I just wanted to give everyone a "first look" at a tartan Kelly created. We've just received approval for the sett and the name from the Scottish Tartans Authority. It's called it the Firefighter's Memorial tartan. We have DOZENS of customers who are firefighters and we have a very strong appreciation for what they do. Kelly wanted to create a special tartan for them to commemorate firefighters everywhere and especially the 343 that died on 9/11.

Here's a pic of the tartan:

This is the explanation for the design: It was made as a salute to firefighters, everywhere in the world, who are ready to sacrifice thier lives everyday in the protection of others, as well as to memorialize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The red represents fire and firetrucks; the black is for those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; the green and gold represents the Irish community which has such strong ties with the occupation of fire fighting; and lastly, the three red lines in the middle of each black square are: 3 red, 4 red, and 3 red - representing the 343 NYFD firefighters who lost thier lives on 9/11/01 - the largest amount of firfighters ever lost in a single day in the history of the U.S.

A portion of every kilt sold will be donated to benefit a firefighter charity (on a yearly basis).

    Rocky,

    Nice looking tartan!

Did you have any trouble getting it woven with an odd number in the thread count?

No... We're having MM weave it in 13 oz Wool and told them that the "3-4-3" section HAS to be done with that thread count. Since they do a "tuck selvedge" for their kilting selvedge, it shouldn't be a problem.

Great looking tartan. As a VFF I might just have to get some of this tartan for my son's second kilt. Might even break down my anti red rule and get one for myself.
