Kilted Outfit for a Live Action Role Playing Game

At the end of the month the Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess and I have been invited to play in a LARP (Live Action Role Playing) Game in Portland OR. For those who have never heard of such, think Dungeons and Dragons in person. I had the opportunity to do so last year by myself and had a wonderfully silly and fun time. I pretty much dressed as the immortal Flynn from "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (green tights and all). My beloved F-H.C.A.G. was very surprised I was going to use the same outfit and insisted I put together a kilted one suitable for a fantasy hero.

Here is the result, behold Corwin the Kilted Ranger of the Darrow Wood:

As for the F-H.C.A.G. she will be playing Kendra, Warrior Babe of the Outland (Christopher Moore fans rejoice!)

Sadly as you can see, her outfit is not a kilted one. But nice none the less.

By the by, one uses big padded foam core weapons when playing. The ones in our hands are just for the picture.

We will try to get a few photos when we play, however the main reason for our trip is to visit with friends and attend the great Portland Brewfest so the pictures might possibly be a bit fuzzy.

    Cheers

Holy crap! you guys take LARP way more serious than I have ever seen it!

there is a group that I have seen near me. personally, I think that it is too much fantasy and not enough history. So please tell me you don't actually hit people with that basket hilt rapior or the hand axe!!!

If/when I go into physical contact reenactment I think I am going to look more into SCA than LARP, but here in Ohio I have only ever seen a group of fat 30 year old comic book nerds hit each other with wooden swords, throwing little bags of sand yelling "magic missile", and wearing cardboard armor. at least you look a bit more convincing.

    nice costumes!

Panache, Goddess, you have marvelous costumes. And I respect both of you highly... but, really... if you're going to keep posing with bladed weapons... take a fencing class, and learn to hold them properly? Please? Thank you.

It's a balance and weight thing, but these are modern times....as Merlin would say to Wart.

Looks too clean, like to see how it all looks once the shine is out of them.

this topic is just begging me to whip out some costuming stuff and my swords. however I will agree with MacDougall. your not holding that blade very convincingly .

After a year of fencing in college (Saber, and the only leftie in the room) and an additional year in Veterinary school (foil, and again the only leftie in the room), I determined that I am NOT a swordswoman, so enjoy my husband's collection just for show. Besides, it's not the blades I was trying to show off!

Thank you, walkerk! Panache spent over seven years of his life fencing, until his wrists decided to give out on him-otherwise I believe he would still be acting as an instructor.

    Be well,
