Out on the Town - Reactions

Well,

Today I decided to wear my new USA Kilt out and about for the first time. It's the first time I've worn one in a casual setting since I was a young lad. Have to admit, I was a little nervous about public reactions, which is funny since I tend to dress ala indie rock - tight jeans and tighter t-shirts, tattoos, the whole bit. However, when it came down to wearing the kilt, there was a little anxiety, but I did it anyway. And it was fine, nobody really even took a second look, except for a car of Italian guys who drove by and yelled out....a three letter word that starts with an "f" ends in a "g" and sounds like "hag". Any guesses? I think you know the word I'm talking about. That's what I get for living in Little Italy and sportin' a kilt Hey, didn't the Romans where tunics??? Hmmm.

Other than that, the "experience" was fine. It was a nice warm day with a light breeze. I couldn't get over how much cooler the kilt was to wear as opposed to my jeans. Down with pants!!! Up with kilts!!!!!

Toronto is one of the few places I've seen people wearing kilts casually on, as far as I know, non-event days.
So you're not alone.

Funny how if you said anything against the heritage of those Italians you would never hear the end if it, yet this is their reaction, a little while ago I had a similar experience in T.O. with a woman in a burka and it really made me wonder.

I think it is an ineluctable part of human nature to frequently fear and deride what we do not know, understand and feel familiar with.

I'm sure this is not the case but it reads like you made racist comments to a woman and you're wondering why she's upset with you.

Recently had my first few outings on errands while wearing a kilt, so far no notice or positive reactions only.

The Korean fellow at the lawnmower shop greeted me with raised hands and smiling while saying "Hello Scottish Man".

The other day I had to run in to the grocery store near our home and ran into a woman in a burka. We exchanged thumbs up and went about our business. I just can't knock any one wearing anything they want. That is what makes America great. Don't forget the Golden Rule.

Actually, it would be Keith B.'s story. Let me make clear that I don't think for a minute that McMurdo would such a thing, far from it. I just don't understand what he did say.

I learned some time ago to ignore those who only have the "courage" to make comments while in a car. Walk proudly kilted and let the world know you above such people.
