			New timber

I'm all excited at the moment: I just got a load of Ironbark delivered from Queensland. 2000 year old tree, and a certificate needed to cut it down. The only way I got this timber was that the tree was cut down to make room for a freeway. It's a beautiful straight grain wood, with a lovely cinnamon colour, & as dense & heavy as anything I've ever seen. I'll have to get a hilt made asap so I can post a pic

That sound beautiful, Raptor. How large are the slabs? I am always looking for new hardwoods for my guitar building obsession.

Nowhere near big enough for guitar building mate. The pieces I got are all milled offcuts from a truss manufacturer & the largest piece is only about 18"x6". You could always join or laminate it, but that that would be a bit self-defeating tone-wise

I build mainly electric guitars so sometimes I do have to laminate two or more pieces together to make a body; the glues I use make such a hard bond that it transfers tone as if it were a solid piece. 18"x6" is too small though
. I bet veneered it would make some beautiful inlay though.

I read the post quickly, and my eyes saw 200 not the 2000.
I am really impressed. I did a google, but found little info.

The age alone, is impressive, but if it is also a nice wood - even better!

Here's a progress shot of a hilt I'm working on. Shaped, carved, & medium sanded. I'm really enjoying watching this wood take shape.

What a rich natural color, it looks beautiful. Good choice going for a simple (but elegant) handle to show it off.
 Cheers
