LL Bean Commando Sweater

Just got one of these in the Navy today. A very nice mid-weight sweater and the Navy is a good shade of blue to go with the Campbell of Cawdor kilt. I'll get a photo later as it's about 90 degrees F here today and not sweater weather.

I tried to score one of these last year but the stocks were pretty well depleted...they seem to have restocked in all the colors so if you're gonna pick one up now's a good time.

+2 on the LL Beans. I have the Navy Heather and the Grey Heather. They BOTH look good with the SWK Black Watch and the Grey looks good with the Nightstalker.

I also have the OD and Black "Wooly Pully" Milsurp commandos (The SOLID knits rather than the "heathered" knits) for my Olive UK.

**Storage Suggestion**

For the wool LL Bean commandos (since they are a bit costly), get the "Space Bags" that you vacuum the air out of before storing them. Drop in a cedar block or ball and it keeps the moths away as well (better safe than hole-y)...

Which style did you get? The Henley or the crew neck? I really like A Henley as I find a crew neck gets too hot even in really cold weather.

It's the crew neck...I've always preferred crew necks myself.

Used to be able to count on being able to go into Marshall Field's here in Chicago for the after Christmas sale and pick up really nice Shetland wool crew neck sweaters for cheap...now: no more Field's, no more sweaters. I once heard that you lock in your style of dress when you're in your last year of high school/first year of college...sounds like me.

Anyway, this is tough...I'm now waiting for the temperature to drop so I can trot out my new sweater!

As I was typing this reply a wooly worm caterpillar crawled across my computer table. According to his stripes, we're in for a long, cold winter. I think I'll order one of those sweaters right now!

Got one of those in the Maroon and like it. Was somewhat disappointed in that, compared to my old Bridgedale wooly-pully (made in England - not China), the wool seemed less full (as though it has been pressed flat) but maybe that will change with use. The material for the patches is not as hard finished - it's somewhat fuzzy, so leaning elbows on the bar may result in soaking up additional beer. Don't like the seam through the patch on the top of the shoulder. Regardless it is a fine sweater, looks good and will keep you plenty warm. Do like the availability of "tall" sizes and assortment of colors.
