    American Heritage Semi-Trad Kilt

Okay, I've been a bit slow uploading the photos, but I'm finally ready, so without further delay - my review of the USA Semi-Trad kilt in American Heritage tartan.

It arrived late last week. I took it out of the box, shook it out (noted that something fell loose and I should look at that), and just looked at. Eight yards, but noticeably lighter than my 13 oz wool, three straps (shoot, forgot to tell Rocky that two would do), belt loops (darn, forgot that too) that match the stripe exactly, hand-pleated. Overall impression: Wow.

    Fresh out of the box:

Just a comparision: American Heritage 11 oz PV, American Heritage 13 oz wool, both Marton Mills

To my eye, the PV is slightly subdued, compared to the wool, but without a side-by-side comparison not many would notice. And I prefer it subdued, because of the pleating:

For my tastes, the wool pleated to the white stripe looked too bright, but the PV pleated the same way works for me.

    Gratuitous side-by-side pleating comparison:

And being worn (after a day at work, so I'm smiling on the inside):

And after wearing it for week, my impression is still: Wow. This a downright comfortable, good-looking kilt.

As I was reading I knew I'd seen you in this tartan before, yet you only just received it. It slowly clicked when I saw both kilt side by each. Gary, to be honest your original (wool) pleated to the three red stripes never actually sang to me (it just looked too busy). Your new one pleated to the white just pops. Kiltos to your American heritage (x2) and to Rocky for another wonderful kilt. i believe that this Tartan is a Rocky and Kelly original or am I mistaken?

This will certainly add another international flair to SOKS. Hope to see it soon.

    Grant,
You'll be seeing both again, along with the matching Thorfinn sporran.
If Burns Night is semi-formal, the AMH with matching 'Saltire' sporran would be a good look, don't you think?

It looks good Gary, congratulations on the new kilt. If this semi traditional USA Kilt is like mine you will get quite a bit of wear out of it.

It looks very good. I like the very dramatic effect achived by pleating to the white stripe. It makes the kilt look completely different from front to back.

    Cheers

That's the thought I kept in mind when I designed the tartan... easy to pleat to stripe or sett and have a nice kilt either way.

The blue used in the PV version IS a little more subdued (read as "greyish") compared to the wool. It's still a very nice shade of Blue... MM just couldn't get the excat same shade in PV as they have in wool, so this was the closest to what the wool is. Either way, I'm still pleased with the material.
