The sleeping tune THIS WILL SEND A SHIVER DOWN YOUR SPINE !!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK9LXdl-6eo

The sleeping tune by the late and much missed Gordon Duncan

by Wolfstone featuring Gordon on the pipes

    absolutly incredible
    the Pics are of Gordon

Gordon was renown for his incredible speed, but just listen to the emotion he gets into the pipes - an instrument sometimes criticised for having no dynamics

Great music. Whoever put the clip together apparantly just collected a bucnh of "Scottish" pics off the web. For instance, the one shot of all the boxes of Caledonia Kitchen haggis was taken by yours truly in our museum gift shop, for our on-line catalog. (We don't use that picture any longer, so it must have been taken off our web site some time ago).

Anyway, just funny to watch the video and see a picture I took of canned haggis!

My favorite Gordon Duncan set is "Just For Seamus."

I sure feel the fool, would like to know what rock I was under!!!! I did not realize that Gordon had passed! I have 2 of his albums, "Just for Seamus" and "Thunderstruck". I am definitely going to have to pick up "Circular Breath" now, and a few other albums he played on. An amazing piper and innovator. Thanks for the link.

Sadly, Gordon took his own life in Dec 2005, his family has started a foundation to further the teaching and development of the Bagpipes in Scotland, His brother Ian is pipe major of the Atholl Highlanders, Gordon tought and inspired many many young pipers, Stuart Cassells from the red hot chilli pipers springs to mind,

astonishingly despite his world wide fame, unearthly talent and several fantastic CD releases, Gordon wasnt a professional piper, he worked as a dustman (garbage collector?) in his home town of Pitlochry.
there are several videos of him playing on "youtube" (search "Gordon Duncan") iv posted an earlier thread.

in a few weeks time there is a memorial concert in Perth featuring Dougie MacLean, Session A9, Duncan Chisholm, Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson.

as well as being an amazing piper he was a fantastic composer, in my opinion the man was a genius

Daz, After I read your post earlier and realized Gordon had past, I googled it up and read about it. I was floored! I don't know how I missed it in all this time. Like I said I must have been under a rock somewhere. I did not realize he was not a "professional" piper! I agree he was a genius, his recordings are amazing. Its talent like his that makes "professionals" humble. I am glad that they are publishing his tunes now in book form. I realize my piping will never be at anywhere close to a 10th of his but he is still an inspiration. The trust is definately a nice tribute to such a talented man and a very worthy cause. I am planning on donating to it soon. I love the Sleeping Tune and when ever I hear it now it will make me a little sad, but I know the almighty is sitting there enjoying one heck of a recital (and I bet Seamus is still sitting in the corner grumbling!).

By the way if anyone is interested the track that the vid used is available on the Wolfstone album "The Half Tail". Its the third track entitled "Gillies". You can listen to a short snippet on the Tradtunes.com website. Search for Wolfstone and you can click on the "The Half Tail" album and listen there.
