2 New Boy's Kilts from Get Shirty
Well both my boy's will be sporting the kilt this weekend at the Celtic Classic thanks to Get Shirty. I ordered them last Wednesday, they shipped on Thursday and arrived today. Considering they came from Scotland that shipping would give Jerry a SWK a run for his money. The kilts are a rayon/ polyviscose blend that has good weight to it. It is a little stiff right now, but I think it will soften once worn or washed.
I went with the Get Shirty because for the price they were the closest to a traditional kilt I saw. They have two buckles, a sewn down fell, fringe and even sporran loops. I thought about the youth kilts from SWK but they are from the Thrifty line and while I am sure they are good for the money (I do own an SWK Standard) they are missing some of the features of the Get Shirty. The cost for this extravagance...$108 shipped from Scotland for the two; not to bad really.
So anyway, the kilts arrived today and I marked them so I can take them to get hemmed tomorrow. I will post pics of the boys in their new kilts from the Celtic Classic.
Oh yes the boys wanted Black Watch (actually my 8 yo wanted BW and my 3 yo said "me too"), but the kicker was when they arrived today my oldest son said, "Daddy, I wish you had a BW so we could all look the same"...well a few minutes of thinking and a call to Jerry at SWK and I have one of his heavyweights on the way. It was actually just a good excuse to order another one of his kilts. I was so pleased with his standard kilt (for the price) that I really wanted to try one of his wool ones.

I have one of his heavyweight Black Watch kilts. You will enjoy it. Wore it through a roll over accident a couple weeks ago and it came out better then I did.

Actually it is the second kilt for my 7 yo. and he has a fairly complete kit (sporran, hose, flashes, skean don't, and Glengarry). He loves wearing his kilt and he wears it with no concerns. In other words he doesn't seem conscious of the fact he is in a kilt. He just does what any little boy does. He does like the comments and attention he gets; I can tell he is proud to wear it. I do of course only let him wear it places I know he will get positive reinforcement on the kilt.
My 3 yo. got a kilt for the 1st time and I bought it because he wanted to know where his kilt was. He wore it for a couple of hours at the Celtic Classic, he like being like his Daddy and big brother but it wasn't his comfy shorts. So he seemed happy to wear it but we let him change as soon as he wanted to. As he gets a bit older I am sure he will wear it more, but I won't push. I'll just make sure it's available to him.

It is very cool that you can share this with your boys, I started kilting only recently and my son is already 18 and not sure what to think of it. Can't push it on him, I am going to be patient and see what happens.

I wouldn't be surprised if your son takes a liking to it as he gets a bit older. I willingly admit I am very lucky with my sons liking the kilt. I do have some advantages though, my sons are in Scotland once a year (we have a home on Bute) and so even though they are half Italian they definitely identify themselves as Scottish, they are fascinated by pipe bands so wearing the kilt means they get to dress like pipers and they are still young enough that they want to be like Dad.
Unlike many of the rable I never really made a conscious decision to wear the kilt it was always just part of my wardrobe from the time I was a boy. My guess is that will be a similar experience for my boys; it's just something you wear. They will probably wear the kilt all their lives although I doubt exclusively.

I have recently purchased a SWK Thrifty Kilt in Black Stewart with sporran for my 10-year old son. However, he keeps waffling about wearing it. How do I convince him that "Real Men Wear Kilts"?
