advice on wearing a fly plaid

OK. Here's the setup. I got a fly plaid custom made from SWK in the Wallace modern tartan to match a kilt I already had. This is for the upcoming Texas Renaissance Fair by the way. That's important to mention so as not to take it too seriously.

Now here's where I'm really open to suggestions. It measures 42"x44" How in the hell should I wear it? I do have a brooch also. Here is a picture of my beloved fly plaid.

    Cheers!

The only times that I wear the fly plaid, is with the most formal evening attire. I know that there are others who wear it with casual wear, but not me.

If you are going to some sort of re-enactors thingy, I guess you could wear it thrown over a shoulder like some sort of sarapi?

Those are odd dimensions; usually fly plaids are either 39" square or 54" square.

I only wear one with a formal jacket. I pull one corner under my left epaulette, and pin it high on my left shoulder with a plaid brooch. I pin the brooch to the plaid, and pin the plaid to the jacket with a saftey pin; doesn't make as big a hole in my jacket that way. Some fly plaids have a corner with a sewn-in pleat; if yours does, that's the corner to use.

Fly Plaids are only worn very formal dress & I do not think it would look good worn as part of a casual outfit. However there are no kilt police on this site so wear it if you feel you want to. I am not a lover of Fly Plaids at all.

Back to the original question on how the Fly is worn. As said before it is pull for back to front under the left epaulette and pined to the jacket between the pocket and the shoulder. Considering that he will be walking around outside in the dust isn't the end that trails down the back some times tucked under the belt?

I've only worn a fly plaid formally, but here is a picture to show how I wore it:

A nice plaid you have there, Confused.Nihilist!
Davedove, that is a GREAT photo!
May I ask one question of all you experts out there? Is it pronounced fly "plad" or fly "played"? I always thought it was "plad", but a friend of mine tells me it is "played".
    Please advise!

I've always said "plad," too, but I was talking with friends from Scotland yesterday and they pronounced it "played." I guess I'll continue using the American pronunciation, though.

Here's how I wear mine. Pretty much the same as Davedove
