Kilt equals closenes
Quote from Riverkilt: "And, I've noticed that when people do compliment my kilt now they tend to come closer before they speak to me, and men seem to offer a handshake as they do.
Somewhere there's a doctoral thesis for someone on human behavior and kilts."
My wife has told me that people, especially those of the fairer sex, seem to get closer than normal when talking to me when I'm kilted. (She is a redhead, but, fortunately not the jealous type!) I hadn't noticed but we decided to check it out...really, I chalk up the attention to being ruggedly handsome!!!
We checked on 2 weekends when she was around me and we were out and about.
Ladies, both known to me and those of new acquaintance, dostand much closer while engaged in conversation while kilted..and the last 3 out of 3 "previously unknown" ladies actually touched me or the kilt during the conversations.
Not exactly a scientific poll, but good enough for me. Maybe we should start a study and assist one of our struggling grad students on his/or/her way to higher academic achievements.

Four cloves of garlic, chewed just before the scientific poll, could cause much different results.

I had a friend who took a roasting chicken on a leash for a walk around the mall a while ago for his sociology project. He called it Poultry In Motion. You, like him, are a sick man. I like that in a person!

Interesting observation. We Americans have the largest "personal space" of any culture I have seen. The distance at which we speak to each other is considerably larger than other societies. Perhaps the perceived eccentricity of the kilt wearer breaks a person from the societal norms of what is an acceptable speaking distance...
Or it could just be that a man in a kilt is irresistably sexy!
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

I like the way you think, now that I think of it, all the people ever talking to me about it, while I wear it come unusually close.

See!
I'm gonna pay closer attention, gather some facts, instead of relying on memory.
Some of my experience is with Navajo men. In their culture its common when meeting a stranger they want to talk with to first shake hands, then talk. So the hand shaking gets them in close.
Of course Navajo custom is just to clasp hands, not actually shake them up and down. But the close in result is the same.
This is gonna be a fun deal.

That doesn't just happen over there. A while back, I was walking down the street, kilted, in Ensenada Mexico, and got asked to pose three times in the space of two blocks. Twice by tourests and once by a local.
That's when I wish I could fake a Scottish accent!
