Concept for a kilt
I was looking thru the J. Crew catalog and on page three, upper right picture there is a girl wrapped in multiple tartans. So, upon pondering the picture and so many tartans all together it definately gave me an idea.
Being I have made a few kilts, three different tartans, I have a few scraps. So what I was thinking was to put a kilt together with multiple tartans. I do not have nearly enough to make a multiple tartan kilt.
Here is a head shot of the girl with the tartans. The catalog has the full picture but I couldn't find it on J.Crew's website.

Let me know if you want to participate in the tartan's of Scotland kilt. If anyone has some scraps, 27" or longer, they may be useful!

A kilt of many colours. Keep the MacDonald and Campbell tartans separated.

It sounds like an interesting idea, not sure that it would be for me, but it does sound interesting.

Not sure it would be for me either. But given enough options, I think I could make it work. Surely not as well as the IOS model...

I could see a kilt with the inter pleats one tartan and the outer a complimentary tartan. The flash as you walked could be very interesting.

This is often accomplished by pleating to the stripe of some tartans. You end up with all light colours on the outside, and all dark on the inside, or vice versa. It looks really cool as you walk. Here's an example of the Antarctic tartan, made by Barb:

How about using variations of one tartan... Modern/Ancient or Modern/Hunting? Not exactly my cup of tea but it could make a real statement on the catwalk come tartan day.

I have to agree here. I think a patchwork kilt of sorts is interesting. Having different variations of the same tartan will keep the sett roughly the same and may lessen the shock of the kilt.
