Where to begin? Looking for 16oz+ 7/8yards Black Watch kilt (possibly in UK)
Afternoon all.
I'm looking to buy a kilt (lots of wedding coming up). I'm Scottish based in London at the moment (well I'm sitting at my folks in Loch Lomond at this second).
I've literally spent days trying to work everything out but have decided asking on here could help me out, as it's a bit of an information overload at the moment.
This will likely be the only kilt I'll ever buy (unless I pile on the pounds in later years) and I'm looking to spend around £200.
kathyskilts looks great but having it sent over seems a bit excessive. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced UK based kiltmakers I could get a good quality kilt from? Or I'd consider having it imported if it was still working out as a good deal.
I've also been looking on ebay but the problem is as a wee lad of 5' 5" getting the length (prob about 22.5") right is tricky on ready mades.
My other measurements are approximately-
waist - 32.5"
hips - 37"
With ex-military I reckon I'd be 164/80/96, so I was considering this too. So WPG might be the lads to use, but as I'm really only going to wear it for special occasions that might not be the best, (in case it got 'wooly' looking).
Sorry for waffling on, I just want to make sure I get it right, and there seems to be a lot of people on these boards that know what they're talking about.
All the best.

First off from Sunny Southern California!
If you really only going to buy one kilt in your life, you should get the best that you can afford. I thought that there were government surplus kilts available in the UK?

Ebay UK usually has a lot of kilts in your size. You can usually get a good deal on them as most people are looking for the longer and larger ones. Good Luck. O'Neille

Also, have a look at one of these
These are orginal BW kilts, some of them never worn (still with the pleats basted)..
That guy has few more of them .. the prices are really ok: 100 -150 quid for good kilt.. The only thing is that as military kilts these are high waisted and military pleated, but it's also quality...
All the best,
Pete
P.S. I'm going to Loch Lomond this friday

You found him the perfect kilt. It's exactly his size with the 2" rise. I got my trews from the same seller and couldn't be happier w/ them.

Cheers for the links Todd, they look great, but a wee bit out of my price range.
Ahhh California James, I bet it's a wee bit warmer there than here at the moment, you'd have to be brave to go out in a kilt tonight in Loch Lomond (unless you had a few cheeky whiskys first). You're right about as good as I can afford unfortuantely at the moment that's 200 quid.
I'll be keping my eye on ebay O'Neille, but haven't spotted my size yet. I've been trying to find a shop that sells surplus army stock, but again finding kilts is a bit trickier than you'd expect.
Cheers lads. Appreciate the quick replies (I have a feeling I'll find what I'm looking for soon with the xmarksthescot posse on board).

Might I suggest Tartanweb?
http://www.tartanweb.com/shop/highla..._8_yard_kilts/
I only have one of their 5 yard kilts but it's pretty nice. Lucky you that you can pay in GBP's instead of US$'s.
Best

I see Hector-Russell in the UK is offering 16oz kilts, including Black Watch, made to order for just under 200 pounds.
Best regards,
Jake

Sorry I've been AWOL, family visits with not a computer in sight (made a nice change). Thanks for your replies guys...
...and thanks for the heads up Pete I'd actually seen that kilt on ebay, but thought the rise might be a bit over the top (no pun intended). But it is probably spot on, I guess I just have to decide if a military kilt is the right choice. Have fun in Loch Lomond, and remember your jumpers and waterproofs, winter is speedily approaching.
Seems like a decent deal at Hector Russel M@A, has anyone had any dealings with them before?
