I'm Converted
Alright, I'm converted, PV sounds good to me. I'm also sick of formal this or that. I'm not a formal type of person. I like casual kilts like my BK canvas, and I'm not worried about swing. Those casual USAKs just started looking a whole lot better to me.

USA Kilts have a lot going for them. Hard wearing, easy to maintain. You should be pleased.

I haven't a single regret on any of my 7 USA Kilts. Other than the list of tartans I want is still not completely satiated.
If they outlaw guns, can we go back to using swords?

It just doesn't make sense to save and save and save for one five or six hundred dollar wool kilt when I almost never wear a suit and want to wear a kilt out and about. That perfect hang and swing isn't as important to me as being in a kilt as often as possible, plus there's sixty-two tartans to choose from. I feel better about life now.

I'm not trying to change your decision, as it sounds like a good one for you. I do have to say though, that you can wear the traditional tailored kilt out and about. Now I wouldn't want to wear one working on a car or some other dirty job, but I've worn mine on walks, to festivals (including beer festivals), as well as formally. That's the beauty of the wool kilt; you can dress it up or down.

You've reached the crux of the argument that only each individual can decide...
Which is better: several kilts that look good for the price or one kilt that looks great but is much more expensive?
Is a wool tank worth the money? That depends on how much money you have and how much you value a wool kilt. To some, there is NO comparison and it must be a wool kilt no matter what the cost. To others, the price is the deciding factor and the looks are "close enough" for them. Neither is wrong, they're just 2 different ways of thinking.

I work with clay, so for that, tanks are out. One day I will get a tank, but I want to be able to throw on a kilt instead of jeans or shorts most of the time and not worry about it. Thanks.

I'm just imagining someone wearing a nice kilt while throwing a pot or vase or whatever. Flecks of clay everywhere and a huge mess down their front.
I've been meaning to buy a PV kilt, just because of the wearability of it. There are times that I'm worried about wearing my current kilt. I want to get use out of it, but I'd be afraid of taking it into a smoke-filled bar, on a hike where it could get snagged too badly or whatever. I definitely like the idea of a kilt that I could wash at home and not weep over if something were to happen to it.

You can also consider a kilt apron to protect your kilt while throwing a pot, What Price Glory has them for $18.00 http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopexd.asp?id=1740&bc=no
Today in Chicago is in the 20's, so I'm glad to have my SWK heavyweight wool Black Watch.

I have worn my BK canvas to work, but I always have a long apron on over my shirt and kilt. the clay will often have iron oxide or other things that would be a kilt killer. I might get something just for the ceramic work, but it sounds like the PV casual USAK might be the best for that. The other thing I am worried about at the ceramics lab is the PV around the kilns. I've heard of Rayon shirts becoming one with the skin when near the high temps.
