Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in Buffalo, January 24th

First, thanks to Tartan Hiker for posting this thread. I had heard this on U@B's public radio station, but hadn't gotten around to looking it up.

Thursday, January 24th at the University of Buffalo's Center for the Arts, the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards will be performing.
Would any of our Western New York*/Southern Tier/Southern Ontario** members be interested in a night of musical entertainment?

    * The R.S.D.G. will be performing in Rochester on Friday the 25th, for those of you up the road.
** And I realize that the SOKS Burns Night is Friday the 25th. I'm just tossing this out here to see if anyone is interested.

Yeesh! On a Thursday. Are the passport laws in place at that time? As my passport expired and I can't actually prove I'm Canadian otherwise. The English birth certificate just doesn't cut it.

From the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative page:

"Currently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers may accept oral declarations of citizenship from U.S. and Canadian citizens seeking entry into the United States through a land or sea border. However, as of January 31, 2008:
    • Oral declarations of citizenship alone will no longer be accepted
    • U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older will need to present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate
    • Children ages 18 and under will only be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate
    • Passports and trusted traveler program cards - NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST - will continue to be accepted for cross-border travel"
So things won't start getting screwy until a week later.

One last bump for anyone who may be interested in Buffalo or just wants a link to their schedule.

    Thumbs up

It was good enough that I bought the CD on the way out, and I've already listened to it twice through.
I am not particularly fond of brass, so the Band of the Coldstream Guards (who also performed) are not really to my taste, but I could recognize them as top grade performers from a technical standpoint.
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards were fantastic. The pipes and drums by themselves were good, but they worked with the acoustics of the auditorium to enhance the sound that much more. That may not be the best way to put it ... let me try this - I attended a different indoor performance by a different band, who didn't take the acoustics of the building they were playing in into acount, and they sounded awful. Thursday night's performance was the exact opposite of that.

I took some pictures, which I may or may not post. The sound was excellent, but the lighting left something to be desired. The Dragoons wear the Royal Stewart, but the lighting made it look the same shade as the Maple Leaf. And the dancers' red jackets turned orange.
