Fastest kilt yet
2.5 hours so far. The apron is shaped, the pleats are in and sewn down (16 of them, this is a 4 yard) This material didn't need to be hemmed, Yay! The waistband is even partway in.
All that's left is the other two-thirds of the waistband and velcro closures. I estimate another 45-60 minutes and it'll be done.
This is a unique kilt. It's nothing like any other kilt I've ever made. It's completely and totally an experiment for laughs. I'd been thinking recently....time to break out of the same-old, same-old, so I just did. It's a unique fabric, a unique design in certain ways; just very different. The digital camera is at the In-Laws so no pics for a while but I will be sure to get some up in a couple of weeks.

Alan,
Your speed no longer surprises me, but I am always impressed with your creativity with trying new designs and modifications.
No pics for TWO WEEKS. Alan don't tease us so.

Hmm, do I sense the makings of a full blown competition? Now we just need challengers.
Derby style announcer over the speakers: "...and coming around the last pleat to the home apron, it's Alan H. by a needle..."

What did ya do different?
One of my fav kilts to wear was an experiment with cheap cotton but its turned out to be the most comfortable one yet. It needs ironed like every twenty minutes it feels like but I do find it comfortable!
Thanks,
Don

The one im wearing in my profile is one that i made, but its only cotton poly, but it is very comfortable, and one of my favorites to wear around the house or out to any casual outing.
Im on the look now for a bit better material, and i intend to try something i have been thinking of doing.
Im going to try pleating from the very back-and pleat both sides so that the pleats all point to the rear.
I know it goes against the grain on how a kilt is made, and I just hope it won't offend some burly scot or irish man,and they rip it off me.
So when i find the right material and have it finished I will post a pic of it in the photo section.

Matthew Newsome talks about this style of kilt part way through the artical. It's a rare style, but no one can complain that it's wrong.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
