Pay Dirt!
I've been exploring the idea of straight razor shaving for a time and whilst I still don't feel I know enough about blade preparation and care yet, this little jewel came up for sale over on the Straight Razor Place forums, yesterday morning.
When I saw that piper inlay on the scale, I knew one thing was certain. I had to own this razor. I immediately PM'ed the owner, who informed me the razor was already spoken for and I was nearly heartbroken. About 20 minutes later, he PM'ed me again to say the first sale had fallen through, so I snagged it up. It was certainly not cheap , but I'm still quite chuffed to own it.
I should probably pull my hair back today and have someone take my picture, so everyone will be able to see me with both ears. I'm likely to lose at least one in the next week or so.

Very cool, but the idea of shaving with one gives me the heebie-jeebies!
Cheers

Good luck & congratulations. Perhaps you should go to an old time barber (if they still exist) and pick up some tips (just not his)

Oh dearie me.
If you've been reading this thread, my recommendation is to calmly and quietly back away. Get yourself as far removed from this thread as you are able. This is a disease, it's highly contagious and you need to save yourselves.
Two more acquisitions, from over the weekend -
A 5/8 Geo.Wostenholm & Son razor
A 6/8 A.W. Wadsworth & Sons razor
Then again, maybe if I can get a few more of you interested, these beauties would be getting snapped up before I unloaded my own wallet on them...

Congratulations on the new shavers... and we'll keep you in our thoughts over this RAD... issue. I have moved into the desert and stopped shaving as part of becoming a hermit, so I have no fears, I did have the same issue back in the nineties with a microphone fetesh. I'm still recovering and will never buy another microphone.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I've had my wife shave my face a few times. I use a regular safety razor, and she gets so nervous about accidentally cutting me that she almost shakes!
I don't think I'll ask her to learn to use a straight razor!
Heck - I've been tempted by a straight razor a few times, and I would be worried about cutting myself!
cheers

I've always wanted one of those! The only thing is, I don't shave, so I wouldn't really use it so often.
I don't understand the bagpiper though, it's a souvenir of Frankfurt am Main (The Frankfurt in Germany most people think of). Then again, Germans played the dudelsack, so I guess it fits. Congrats!
