All Creatures Great and Small
For those of us who like the "All Creatures Great and Small" tv series, an episode with kilts: "Hail Caesar!"
It was on my local PBS station Monday. Helen decides to have a display of Scottish country dancing, so toward the end of the show they have James, Tristan, Calum, Jimmy, and a few unnamed characters in kilts. Calum wears a Buchanan, of course, and James and Jimmy wear Armstrongs, but I couldn't tell what Tristan was wearing.
Now the next time I'm at my parents' I'll have to find their copies of the books, and see if that sequence is in them, or if it was written for the television series.

I liked that show too. The scenery was incredible. It'd be nice if they had a "reunion" miniseries/show to see how everybody got on.

I don't know anything about the TV show, but I was sooooo hooked on those books. I don't remember reading anything about kilts though... Loved those james Herriot books, and I think I have them all on my computer now.
I'm having James Herriot flashbacks now, te he.

I don't remember that in the books either, and I'm a vet, so I SHOULD know (but I don't know for sure, I should look it up!). To be honest, I didn't read the books until I was in vet school, but loved them then. Currently, both of my kids are watching a Scottish Country Dance video put out by the Red Thistle Dancers-I have high hopes!

All the characters names are recognizable, but that particular event does not at all ring a bell. I do recall Tristan, having a bottle of sherry hidden under a floor board and showing it to James just before going to some kind of dance or something... In one of the books that is. Gees! I'm still having major flashbacks.

I only know the first series or two (with the original actress who played Helen). I know that in the books James Wight (i.e. Herriot) is a Scot, there are jokes at his expense about thrift.
Regardless of kilts his books are great reads. Though be forwarned, his first book has two chapters that still reduce to me tears (not neccessarily sad, but very emotional)
Cheers
Jamie

I would suggest reading the books too if you're interested. I started reading them when I was thirteen, and read them over and over untill they are just one big string of tails in my mind. As soon as I think of my favorite story, I remember another part that is just as good. James Herriot is an unbelievablely good discriptive storry teller, and you almost can't put the book down in the middle of one of his tails.
