    Hamish MacBeth

No, I did not make up that name!

While looking for something similar to Monarch of the Glen, I came across this BBC series available in DVD.
Anybody familiar with it? Is it any good?
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

I think it's really good. I prefer it to MOTG myself, as it's a little more down to earth. Give it a try; if you like MOTG, you'll probably like Hamish MacBeth.

It's not bad. I'll pretty much watch anything with Robert Carlyle in it, though...he has yet to make something I wouldn't watch again. The series is a bit different from the books by MC Beaton, on which the series is based, but still very enjoyable. I'm glad they're on DVD...I'll have to add them to the queue.

It's okay-- Robert Carlyle plays "Hamish MacBeth" a small town cop in a remote fishing village in Scotland. This could have been really good but it was generally let down by typically weak British television scripting.

It reminds me of a Scottish "Northern Exposure".

Mac is correct, I think. I really liked the series--at least the ones I got to see beforr BBC-America took it off the air--but it was a little weak in writing.

The books will never receive a Nobel for literature, but I like them a lot. Ole Hamish is a very interesting character, and his little village and the messes he gets into keep things interesting.

I'd buy one of the dvd 's.

See my thread "first attempt at photo posting" and you will see a picture of Plockton where the series was filmed. Whilst on the subject on televison scripting, the words "pot" and "kettle" come to mind.

Touche. I can't argue with you on that point since so much formulaic garbage passes for entertainment around these parts.
