Hello from Northern Ireland.
Hello to all on XMTS.......I found your wonderful forum whilst browsing for tartan fabric, so i thought i'd drop in and say hello.
My name is Neil Walker, and i hail from just outside Belfast.
I have been reading through your forum, and have found it very interesting indeed.
I am a kilt maker of a different kind....in fact, a Highland uniform maker of a different kind (i will explain)
I make accurate Scottish military uniforms in 1:6 scale, which when dressed, stand about 12" high.
As i said earlier, i was browsing for tartan,...well, i have pretty much searched the world for what i need, but to no avail.
Perhaps you guys can help?
I have been searching for a perfectly scaled Black Watch tartan fabric, which would have a cotton feel to it.
The dark green band would need to be around 3/8"....or 8mm, and the background would need to be a VERY dark blue.
Does anyone know where i can buy such fabric?
I have had a few samples of fabric sent from all over, but they are either too lightweight, or the colour is simply too light.
I have one perfect tiny kilt, but can not find any fabric to match.
I can post a photograph of this kilt if it would help to identify.
Anyway chaps, sorry for asking for help on my very first post, so i hope you will forgive me.
By the way, i have worn the kilt for quite a few years, but not for a few years now, so i was very interested to read through the forum.
Thanks for having me.
Neil.

from South Wales Neil!
I guess scaled down tartans are a specialist thing - I wonder if they ever did any for Action Man?

Welcome to the Rabble!
from Sunny Southern California!
Your question is new to me. I have never seen any scaled down tartan cloth. I wonder if you could be better served to try and weave it yourself?

Yes McClef, they certainly did...and while it wasn't a bad rendition for 1970 toy manufacture, the tartan is more like the Sutherland tartan, (well it was the Argyll and Sutherland uniform i suppose)
But the uniforms i make are in the same scale as Action man and Gi Joe.
Neil.

Welcome to XMTS from Victoria, B.C., Canada! The only scaled-down tartan that I've seen is on neckties, and it's probably not a small enough sett for what you need.

Welcome! I've also seen scaled-down tartans on fabric ribbons one uses when wrapping Christmas presents and the like. Don't know if you could find any wide enough, though....
