Nebie Questions
Hello all!
I found this site very recently and have been reading a LOT. There is an overwhelming amount of information here and I am getting a bit lost.
Here is my situation.
I am the captain of the Black Watch Scenario Paintball Team. We compete in scenario paintball events (many of them are historical re-enactments) across the nation. Our team is named after the Black Watch and we have their official permission to use the name, colors, symbols, tartan etc. Here is a link to our team: teamblackwatch.com
We wish to wear kilts on the field - in battle - as well as off the field. Our solution is that we will purchase multiple BW kilts (on and off the field). We plan on wearing them in regular life as much as possible as well because we all have Scotish and Irish ancestry and wish to honor that.
Here is my question:
What recommendations does you have for us as to what to add besides the kilt itself?
Our look for the field would be considered casual to battle dress (?).
Our look for off the field would be considered either dressy or formal.
We intend to eventually have full formal as well.
I know this is A HUGE QUESTION. I intend to continue reading and learning as much as possible. This is just the first moment I felt that I have done enough reading before making my first post.
Thank you very much!!
Vic "Jako Dar" Morris

First
For your battle dress since it is likely to get messy, you might want to try the SWK Thrifty line, they have the Black Watch. For $30 you get yourself pretty close to a real kilt in looks without worrying what happens to it.
For your dressy look check out the Pics threads.. You'll find plenty pics of XMTS members in dressy kit. You shuld get some good ideas from there.

from Chicago. For your "dressy" kilts, you might consider either the standard ($80) or heavyweight wool ($125). I have the wool and love it. Very reasonably priced for what you're getting.
Riverkilt: What folks are failing to mention is that the USA Kilts Casuals, and Semi-traditionals, are TEFLON coated. Seems the wisest choice for paintball and long wear with repeat washings.
Unfortunately USA Kilts isn't listing Black Watch at the moment.

I spoke with them today. Rocky says they have them, they are just REALLY BACKLOGGED. They have a long turn-around at the moment due to increased demand. Their business is doing really well and St. Paddy's is a commin'

It's by no means a wool handsewn, but it might be perfect for "field" use.

Welcome. They have you covered on the advice part.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

For battle, I'd recommend an SWK thrifty.
For off-field, I'd recommend SWK Heavyweights.
Probably about the best quality for the lowest price, and amazing customer service.
As for accessories, you'll want to be able to carry all your stuff when in battle. I'd say to get some shoulder bags or backpacks at a military surplus store. For a sporran, you could get the cargo sporrans from SWK, which come in nylon and leather (though the latter sells out really fast). I'd recommend the nylon for your circumstances, since the leather ones tend to make a tapping sound as the tassels hit the body of the sporran.
For off-field, I'd recommend The Frugal Corner. They don't deliver very fast, and getting hold of them can be problematic at times, but they do come through in the end and their prices are good.
As for hose, I've heard good things about the ones from Hamilton Dry Goods.
If you also want caps, I've heard great things about GlengarryHats.com you might be interested in their tan balmorals and glengarries. However, Jas. Townsend & Son sell inexpensive wool Scots bonnets which are really great, and I can personally recommend them.
Also, if you are buy a large number of items at the same time, you could probably get some sort of bulk purchase discount.
That's all I got for now .

Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts. You should scan the advertisers on this forum. I have a SWK Black Watch and love it for getting beat upon. I think that you may want to check out Sport Kilt for the field and USA Kilts for a dressier look. Jerry's (SWK) service is fast and he has great customer service. Rocky and Kelley (USA Kilts)make some great kilts. My recent polyviscous American Heritage is perfect. The belt loops are invisible, as are the buckle straps. The fell lies perfect on me for maximum pleat swish. I have heard from my paint ball friends that the Sport Kilt have been the easiest for them to keep clean from the battles.
