Holy Week and Kilted Confusion!
Hey, there! Happy Easter one and all!
Well, us nuns are pretty much in Church all week this time of the year. As any good X-Marker would agree, that leaves plenty of opportunities to wear the kilt!
On Friday, a lady at Church said, "Sister, are you Scottish? My husband said at Church last nigh, 'Sister always wears Scottish plaids." I told her that I had Scottish and Irish ancestry, and she was excited because she does, as well.
Now, here comes the confusion part...for the Easter Vigil, I wore my MacArthur along with a green argylle (the one I got very cheaply from my former band's "old" uniform supply!), green hose, black shoes, and white blouse. An Irish lady at my Church said, "Sister! You sure look IRISH tonight; I LOVE your kilts!" I told her it was my MacArthur, and she was still very excited because she loves the kilt and all things Irish...I didn't have the heart to tell her it was Scottish!
AND, I've noticed that even if the kilt is blue or red or something else, a number of people think that it is Irish. Very interesting!

I think it has something to do with the association of bagpipes with St. Patrick's day, and the number of "Irish-oriented" bands out there.
Great pics in the other threads, by the way. The kilts look smashing!

Sister, I wonder if it could have something to do with St. Patrick's day having just passed? I have noticed that the 'kilt uneducated' often confuse the two countries when thinking about the kilt, somewhat I suppose (and no offense to either party) lumping the two together into one celtic region of the world. Anyhoo, I'm sure you looked smart for the services this week, and happy Easter to you!

Humm I think it is the green. Subconsciously most people see green and think Irish. I also agree with St. Patrick’s day might have something to do with it.
Wear the MacArthur Proud cuz!!

Happy Easter, Sister, and all! I encounter the same thing, however, three of my four trad. style kilts are Irish Tartans.

Hoppy Easter, Sister!!
It seems to me that the kilt has come to be recognized, in large part, as a Celtic garment, more than just a Scottish one. The first culture most people think of as Celtic is the Irish, which hostorically speaking, is very true (in a lot of ways.) So it seems to me this is how it works out in most people's minds- Kilts= Celtic =Irish. Just my two cent's worth...

Don't know if that was a typo on Nighthawks part, but happy, hoppy Easter from the Garden Bunny here, Pipesndrumsnun!
BTW, your outfit sounds lovely, Pipesndrumsnun, very Eastery and Spring-ish. Best of wishes.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

No- not a typo. It was a (bad) play on words.
