Need a dial up friendly photo site

Well, I've gone through all the dumps and trouble shooting with PhotoBucket and its still impossibly slow. Like it never loads.

I'm guessing that such site providers are dumping dial up the same way shoe manufacturers dumped wide footed customers.

Just wondering if anyone knows any dial up friendly photo sites?

I've decided the hang up is the massive video ads with all the rapid movement that have to download before I can get to my site.

    Appreciate the board's wisdom.

Wish there were a way to get high speed out here in the toolies without massive conversions and costs.

I don't exactly have the same problem as you, Ron, but right now, the X Marks gallery is the only place that I am able to upload pictures to. There are some limitations to that, but it is that or nothing. In the past, I had to email a picture to someone with a photobucket thingy and have that member post the pictures for me. You don't have control over the picture in that case, but you got to do what you got to do...

Hope that isn't too harsh and crule, Ron.

Ron, have you looked into Hughsnet satellite internet? It is what I use. I live in a rural area, and the phone lines are pretty old (can you say antique?). This often limits a 56K dialup to about 25K. Satellite isn't quite as fast as some DSL and certainly not as fast as cable, but it sure beats the crap out of my available alternatives. You will also experience some weather fade(losing connection in heavy rain or snow), but it is usually infrequent. Cost in my area is around $60 per month.

Check out www.flickr.com which is owned by Yahoo. I have used Yahoo for email and other things for many years with dial up before switching to cable, and found it to load pretty fast.

There are many options for those on dial up now. Vonage, Hugesnet, etc offer satellite service to those who otherwise could not get anything except dial up.

If that isn't an option for you, perhaps the site I use, https://www.minoguetech.com, would be better. I use it for my web storage. It is designed to be used even by dial up users but is primarily for those who chat on line to store avatars. I'm not sure if it would be suitable for your uses.

    You might try http://www.walagata.com/
They don't have a lot of ads and they are fairly slimline.
I haven't used them in a long time, so I'm not sure how much space they give you now.

    Good luck!

    Ron,
If you have a wireless company with EVDO service available consider this as an option. My EVDO aircard in my laptop is just as fast as our home DSL connection. With the current price wars it can become very affordable too

Thanks for the suggestions guys...looking at the DSL but there's a microwave or radio signal from my house to the server guy's antenna connection....not cheap but maybe that economic stimulus package money could start me off the first year...but then all of a sudden there's some big dial up crash all over Arizona and California today. Just got fixed...whatever they did to fix it now Photobucket is running well again....high tech continues to baffle and anger me at the same time...

Well, that's good, Ron. We just got a dsl out here last year I guess. They piggybacked it on the regular phoneline... The phonelines are made from paper clips and wet string out here... It's better than the dialup, though.
I've also noticed that you have to keep an eye on the processes on the computer, like when you ault control delete. Sometimes the computer is loading up a bunch of programs that you never use and it bogs down things...
