Though I've not had a chance to wear my kilt outfit for several years, when I lived in Scotland and my dad bought my brother, myself and himself our day-dress outfits back around 1968, we had brown leather accoutrements, including brown ghillie brogues.

I think they were Keltic brand, from Scotland. I don't know if Keltic are still in business. They were excellent shoes.
