???Favorite Single Malt???

So I've pretty much always been a fan of the Glenlivet 12 year. It's reasonably priced, readily available, fairly smooth and palatable. Lately, I've been trying scotch from differently regions. Some I've found interesting, some I'm not sure of, and some I'll put away for a few years to see if they grow on me.

It's kind of an expensive proposition to buy a bottle and not be happy with it. I know some try the mini bar sized bottles, but because of the way they're bottled, I'm not sure they are a fair representation of the actual spirits.

Anyone have any favorites they'd like to recommend?

Oban makes a nice 12yr old single malt.

I've always been a Laphroaig fan. And now that I've found out that I'm not allergic to alcohol and can drink again, it's the one I've been craving. (Now if my pocketbook would just get into a shape where I can afford to drink, I'll be a happy camper.)

My absolute favorite single malt is Lagavulin 12 y.o. cask strength. It's a bit hard to find where I live. My fall back is Lagavulin 16 y.o. Both of these scotches are fairly expensive. After Lagavulin, my preferred single malt is Laphroaig 1/4 cask.

Thanks for posting the other thread BEEDEE, it was a hoot seeing so many different faces. I am amazed at how much the membership evolves over time.

In defense of non-single malt whisky, after a long day of concentrating on a 3-D computer model I want a good reliable Scotch Whisky that does not challenge me to try to find each of the subtle flavors, but rather is just a good solid Scotch.

So many single malts, so little time. My favorites change every so often after sampling a new one. I'd have to go with Oban, Talisker and... (get ready for this one) OPB

Better known as other people buying.

Probably the two best ways to find you favorites is to go to a Scotch Taisting or to just try different ones at a bar/pub/club. Just be sure not to try too many in one night at the bar

Favorite Drinking Scotch is undoubtedly Ardbeg 10yr With Talisker 12 coming in second. Lagavulin is quite good as is the bottle of Caol Ila 18 that I have. Generally my tastes run towards Islays though. Yummy Peaty Goodness.

Depends on the region. Most of these are in the cabinet now.

Speyside: McAllen 12, Glenrothes 12, Cragganmore 12 (wife's favorite)
Islay: Laphroaig 10, Laphroaig 10 cask strength, Ardbeg 10
Highland: Dalmore 12, Dalwhinnie 15

Others I've had and enjoyed include the Lagavulin 12, Balvenie 12, and a Talisker. I second the suggestion to get to some tastings to be able to try many different without buying a whole bottle.
