    Hard to find tartan, cavin

    Im trying to find the tartan for the cavins its a sept of the Clan Douglas, im new to this so, would it be the same tartan or would it be a separate one? and if its different does anyoen know where i could find it

    A search with the Tartan Ferret at the Scottish Tartans Authority doesn’t show a Cavin tartan. As a sept of the Douglas Clan of course you would be ‘entitled’ to wear that tartan. Many of us maintain you can wear any tartan you wish just do so with respect and pride.

    There is a Country Cavan tartan from Ireland, and it's absolutely gorgeous. All my family is from County Cavan, so the next major kilt purchase will be an 8yrd hand sewn County Cavan.

    Traceing my family from scotland to ireland has been kind of frustrateing, especialy when your trying to find your family coat of arms and tartan

    In Scottish heraldry, there is no such thing as a "family coat-of-arms". Arms belong to an individual:

    It seem the name Caven is on their list, so yes the Douglas Tartan would be completely acceptable.

    i think sticking with the douglas tartan would be your best bet.
