    DIY Kilt #2

Last Saturday I had a fruitful trip to Hancock fabric. I purchased a poly blend tartan at clearance for $2.95 a yard. It's about 11oz (which is just fine for Florida) 2.25 yards at 55" wide. Obviously suitable for a lightweight 4 yard kilt. My last DIY kilt was in the royal Stewart tartan, this one is probably a bumbee. Although it does have similarities to MacLeod Black & White tartan. This tartan has a oatmeal color in place of the white. There are some other differences as well.

    Here's the tartan!

    Test pleat pattern 2

I went with pleat to stripe pattern 2.

Measured my kilt drop (22.5") and marked it with pins...

Removed the excess where my kilt rise is...

The excess will become the waist band and fringe..

Finished pressing and setting the hem with pins....

    Sew the hem...

That's quite a bargain for a beautiful tartan.
