Where in the h#$! (USA) can I get Poly Viscose?

I live at about 7,200 feet up in the western mountains of Wyoming, USA, where the only thing less populated here besides people, is FABRIC SHOPS! I drove 100 miles yesterday to Jackson Hole's fabric store, where the only thing they had that resembled tartan plaid, was in FLEECE (yech!).

I ordered my first kilt, a BLACK WATCH, from England, and later an Irish Heritage for a friend, from KILTMART in Arizona; actually a pretty good kilt for the money.

I made one for myself from a piece of this Poly Viscose (I later found out what it was) that I had hidden away for a lifetime. Friends have seen it and now they want me to make them kilts.

I hope these are not the words on my dying lips; "where can I buy Poly Viscose online in the USA?" I bought some from England yesterday and a reasonable price, 2.50 Pounds per Meter, but the SHIPPING is over TWICE the cost of the fabric!

P-V won't ever replace wool (too many died-in-the-wool traditionalists) but is a fair and decent alternative. I have my Maple Leaf in both wool and P-V so I'm covered from the hottest of summers and the coldest of winters. Marton Mills is a prime source of P-V in North America. or contact one of our kiltmakers to see if they'll let some go (USAKilts and Canadian Casual Kilts both use Marton Mills).

You might want to check on Ebay, It's always a possibility. Shipping isn't bad if the cloth is in the U.S.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the PV problem but as a fellow Wyomingite now transplanted to ND I wanted to say hi. I used to live in Big Piney about 90 miles South of Jackson Hole and dearly love the area and it's history. Although I never got an Elk during hunting one of my best memoriies is the hunt I and a friend made in the Hoback on horseback. Alas the one bull Elk I saw was at sunset standing on the next ridge and the only way I could have taken him would have been with an ICBM (Inter-contintal Ballistc Missle). But just to be there was enough.
They say you can take a man out of Wyoming but you can't take Wyoming out of the man which at least in my case is true.

Yes it is a small world! My Wife and I left the Big Piney/Marbleton area in 1987
after serving as pastor of the Baptist Church in Big Piney since 1981. There are lots of good people in those parts but i'm out of touch wiht anyone out that way and so can't help much. You might try the Wyoming Highlanders Association, I think they are based out of Jackson Hole. How long have you lived there?

I sadly don't play the pipes but have a life-long love of them. I would like to learn but I am quite a distance from an instructor and unable to drive since loosing my sight it will take some ingenuity to make it happen but there is always a way.

Celtic Croft retails yardage, along with other blends and wool tartan. They have approximately the same line of Marton Mills tartans used by USAK and CCK. $30/yard double-width (60") if I recall correctly, and you don't have to hassle with the international shipping and import duties.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried the Celtic Croft, but they don't have my tratan. I've contacted and waiting for a reply from Marton Mills for the availability of my tartan there, and if they sell direct.

If you mare getting the fabric to have a kilt made, try going through one of our kiltmakers here. They usually get a better price on yardage, and charge for their labor w/o marking up the cloth.
