One done, one in process, one in the planning stages
Hi all, new here, but made my first kilt for a clan dinner in March 07. I can't seem to post a pic here, but have created an album with one photo of the "Weathered MacWerner" kilt in action.
Busy creating kilt #2, a casual machine-stitched med-weight denim job for him to wear at the Vista Games next month. It will be our first games and while I'm told many men wear their "formal" woolen kilts with a T-shirt, I can't imagine Vista in June in wool! And if harm should come to the WMacW. . . well, after a few glasses of wine Friday night I said, I've got the denim on hand, I'll just whip up another one!
It's going well, I'll take and post a few shots later on -- but must run and pin on the waistband if it's to get stitched today.
Have a length of Black Watch on deck for kilt #3, hope to make it (and a Prince Charlie and vest of his own) for the '09 clan dinner. Wish me luck!

Appearances are deceiving LOL -- but I have been sewing for, err, decades and was never shy of tackling a project as long as I had instructions. Bless the Internet, I had several versions of "how to make a kilt" and combined what I liked best from each. Bit of a mish-mash, hunting through pages of printouts for "where did I read that?" but all's well.
The WMacW will always be special (you never forget your first ) but I hope to make the Black Watch a thing of beauty.
Then there's the Prince Charlie topic. . . reading up on related threads, to take advantage of the wisdom of those who have already trod that road.
Thanks all for the welcomes!

If you want to *really* crank out a beauty, order Barbara Tewksbury's book.
"The Art of Kiltmaking".
It's fifteen bucks, jammed with information, spiral bound so that it lies flat on your sewing table, and ten times over worth the price!
Freedom Kilts, that advertises here, sells it. You can also order it directly from Celtic Dragon Press.

If you go Direct, Barb will scribble in it for you too !
That alone makes it worth twice the cover price.
CT - hey, that sorta rhymes

Well done on the kilts. We want to see pictures (of course).

IN the second printing now, it's about $40 delivered, and still worth ten times that. Celtic Dragon Press

One small pic in an album under my forum name. But I can't attach directly to posts -- is there a newbie waiting period for that privilege? I don't see it mentioned in forum rules or welcome e-mail. Oh well, time to dash off and pick Mother up from the train, get back to the denim job tonight (waistband is on and finished inside, left to do is finishing lining, fraying fringe, making and attaching belt loops, attaching buckle and strap, and [cheat for a casual kilt] Velco closure).
Thanks again for all the hospitality!
