The Nor Cal Rabble at The Campbell Highland Games

The Great Sun God Apollo always shows great favor on the Campbell Highland Games each year. For as his chariot soars over the sky the brilliant rays of the lights shine down allowing us to bask in their glorious heat uninterrupted by cloud or wind. Lucky us who attend the Campbell Highland Games and Celtic Gathering as we shall not want for light and never need fear chill...

Well that is how the story is supposed to go. The Nor Cal Rabble expected heat and it was hot, but Mother Nature had a few fun surprises for us.

As this is the Nor Cal Rabble there will be plenty of pictures. I'll start off with a teaser

Rest assured there will be more pictures of the day and the BBQ that followed!

    Stay tuned...

    Cheers

    Jamie

    Looking forward to more pictures.

In the mean time...Jamie, where did you get your shirt? I really like the big buttons and squared off pockets. They give it a more authentic safari look than a lot of other shirts I've seen of that type.

The Demonstration Team for my Scottish Country Dance Class (San Jose Class) of the RSCDS. They did a wonderful job of performing a montage of three different dances. I aspire to try out for the team next year.

After the demonstration they invited members of the audience to join them. I was more than happy to get a dance in with my wee little girl.

Me and a member of the Los Gatos / Monte Sereno Pipe and Drum band.

My daughter Xena and a charming friend from her SCD Class

We are fortunate that a few of our class members are also members of the Red Thistle Dancers demonstration team. They gave a great show with three different medley dances and then had a highland dancer perform between these sets to illustrate the differences between the two.

(For those interested information about Scottish Country Dance check out the RSCDS website, there are classes available worldwide)

My very small contribution to my class' efforts was to help unload the stage the day before in the 100+ heat. Oh well every little bit helps!

X Marker Piper George and the Santa Cruz Pipe and Drums Band. George was not only playing with his band but also rushing off to perform in the solo competions.

X Marker AndrewLenzJr was there taking pictures of his band (he is still out with hand injury)

For more information on the Santa Cruz Pipes and Drum band here:

Right after their performance I noticed that a wind had come out of nowehere and looked up to the sky and saw clouds!

Me and a couple of hot kids

They knew how to cool down!

walkerk and I in proper tropical gear

Because of the heat the Black Watch Re-enactors decided to portray the unit from 1937 to 1942

They both thought that Kent and I were very well dressed! (They also wondered if we were interested in joining! them )

Though the afternoon was still hot, the breeze and clouds made the afternoon bearable. Wonder of wonders it actually rained for a few minutes to the amazement of the crowd.

It was still hot though so Kent and I used the tried and true method of using wet bandanas around the neck to cool us off.

Obviously I have been a bad influence on Kent

A while back Alan had posted about looking for the perfect nautical looking kilt pin. I am happy to say he did find one:

Enjoy the picture as Alan promptly lost the pin during the day

(Alan you are a member of XMTS! You put a piece of rubberband on the backside to keep from losing it! )

Assembled X Markers and a friend

Monkey@arms and Michael Steinrok get all Colonial

March of the MacNaughtons! We made sure to be there to cheer on our friends and hosts. Watch that sword Alan!

Jamie, you are a tease... Way to set us up for the future photos.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon
